The new JBL Synthesis is a movie lovers dream come true. Touted as possessing an “immersive home theatre audio that’s perfectly tailored for your room”, it can be fully customised to suit any room size, with the ability to scale from small, intimate spaces to the largest private home cinemas.

For movie buffs, the JBL Synthesis is a complete turnkey system for the home theatre or media room, bringing blockbuster sound home. Utilising the most advanced electronics and loudspeakers, JBL’s team of experts is able to create a completely customized system tailored to each individual room’s size and acoustics.

Once installed, each system is expertly calibrated to guarantee exceptional performance for each and every seat. That claim was put to test during the launch at the JBL Sound Gallery @ T Space and though we might not have watched a whole movie, we heard and saw enough during the showcase to know that a JBL Synthesis system is truly capable of making each moment of the movie come to life with perfectly balanced sound and incredible dynamics.

The JBL Classic Loudspeakers Series on the other hand, combine the timeless design of the JBL L100 with modern acoustics to create the JBL L100 Classic $6999/pair, JBL L82 Classic $3999/pair and JBL L52 Classic $1500/pair.

Introduced at the 1970 CES in Chicago, the original JBL L100 loudspeaker was the answer to calls for a consumer version of the immensely popular JBL 4210 Pro Studio Monitor. More than half century might have passed and JBL L100 3-way bookshelf loudspeaker has since attained the legendary status of JBL’s all-time, best-selling loudspeakers.

The original JBL L100 production run included the JBL L100, along with the subsequent JBL L100A and JBL L100 Century evolutions that quickly followed and ran through the end of production in 1978. That fundamental compact 12-inch 3-way design is maintained in the JBL L100 Classic with improvements made to the transducers, enclosure tuning, and crossover network design.

Designed by Chris Hagen, the same acoustic system engineer that created the JBL L100T3 in 1988, the JBL L100 Classic benefits from decades of JBL engineering prowess along with the world’s most advanced acoustic engineering resources available in HARMAN’s Northridge, California design centre.

The JBL L82 Classic is a compact 8-inch (200mm) 2-way bookshelf loudspeaker featuring JBL’s advanced acoustic technologies in combination with the iconic retro-inspired style of its larger family member: the JBL L100 Classic. It is also packaged and sold as mirror-image pair.

JBL L52 Classic is a 5.25-inch (130mm) 2-way loudspeaker featuring JBL’s advanced acoustic technologies in combination with the award-winning retro-inspired style of its larger family members. In short, it may be small, but it still packs a punch.

I fell in love with the updated models’ 1970’s-style retro design the moment I lay my eyes on them. The vintage JBL styling includes the signature Quadrex foam grille in a choice of three colours — black, burnt orange, or dark blue, white cone woofers, and an enclosure finished in genuine, satin walnut wood veneer with black front and rear panels.

I may be biased but I think these products do sound as good as they look. The JBL Synthesis and JBL Classic Loudspeakers Series are all available exclusively at the JBL Sound Gallery @ T-Space (by appointment only), at 1 Tampines North Dr. 1, #06-33, Singapore 528559. Opening hours: Mondays to Saturdays 11am to 7pm (closed on Sundays & Public Holidays)
