Travel is a lot of work. Planning flights, activities, researching locations, packing lists, packing hacks, repacking, logistics, coordinating schedules, and repacking again–Arrrgh!

It can all be a bit draining and before you know it, you’re exhausted even before you board the plane. That very fact alone makes an all-inclusive style resort seem very appealing.

Some people prefer a less traditional ‘off the beaten path’ approach to travel, while others want it jam-packed with tourist activities. On the other spectrum, there are those who prefer to be fully pampered in the lap of luxury, and of course, there’s a vast array of mixed options in between, catering to your every need.

Depending on the type of experience you want, if you’re seeking a break from the office grind,  or a travel blogger looking for a break from all your travel planning and crave a vacation where you can just show up, relax and enjoy yourself–an all-inclusive luxury resort could be just what you seek, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to spend planning, don’t get much vacation time, have a stressful job, or manage a family full-time.

Don’t Knock It Until You Try It

One of the best things about an all-inclusive resort is that you can enjoy everything without having to think about the price or carry a wallet. You can just show up at the restaurant, eat, and leave.

It’s not only a fabulous get-away from your everyday grind at the office, but it’s also a vacation from thinking about money, which can be a real sense of relief for most people. Obviously these luxury resorts are not cheap, but if you can afford it, it makes your vacation, something you can truly enjoy, withour having to worry about a thing.

Sometimes vacations can be frustrating for budget travellers because you constantly feel like you are forking over all your hard-earned money day after day, nickel and dime. But with an all-inclusive resort, that feeling is curbed with the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mindset.

For the most part, everything is included in the price, but some amenities require an extra cost, such as top-shelf alcohol, or premium activities. However, at most luxury resorts these added costs are factored in the package you choose based on various options such as your preferred activity level, if you drink or not, etc.

Another great benefit of an all-inclusive option is the minimal planning required. All you have to do is decide where and when you want to go, and which package suits your needs. Then purchase your flight and show up. It’s that easy! If you are anything like me, and convenience is what you are after in your quest to chillax, an all-inclusive luxury resort will fit the bill.

NOT the Real Deal

However, despite all the benefits an all-inclusive luxury resort provides, there are some downsides to going with the luxury route that you should consider when making your vacation plans.

Luxury resorts are typically tucked away from the local areas of a destination, so getting to see the raw authentic version of a country is often replaced with a truncated version for tourists. You don’t get to immerse yourself with the local culture or experience what it’s like to learn a different way of life. You miss out on learning about the local people and their customs, strolling through local markets, or sight-seeing museums and architecture–all the things that an all-inclusive resort simply just does not cater to. However, if the crush and bustle is not your scene, then a luxury all-inclusive resort is just what you need!

For some people, it is not worth the visit if you don’t get to experience a different culture, because realistically, getting pampered is something you can do in your home town with a spa day or a stay-cation. So it really depends on what kind of traveller you are.

Tourist Trap

Sure you could head out of the resort to get your fill of some local culture, however, you’re likely to run into more hassle than your relaxing mindset would want to face. Prime tourist locations where luxury resorts tend to reside sound excellent, but the fact of the matter is, leaving the resort can be a bit of a nightmare. These resorts make it difficult to find transportation, are hosted among crowded, less enticing streets, and they push you towards over-priced restaurants. It’s all a capitalist monopoly.

If you do prefer to explore and get off the beaten path, you may want to weigh your options as an all-inclusive resort may not be worth it to you. Adventure activities are much more expensive in tourist areas and can be quite challenging to arrange which all adds up in cost on top of your luxury all-inclusive resort package price.

Escape the Grind

All-inclusive luxury resorts are absolutely worth it–if and only if–that is exactly what you want and can afford.

If the appeal of all you can eat food, and drink, ultimate pampering, and relaxation away from the noise and stress of everyday life along with modern conveniences sounds like a perfect escape vacation, an all-inclusive resort could be the way to go for sure!
