Skirts are an easy choice for just about any occasion. They are feminine, versatile and come in a wide range of designs, styles and patterns. From formal events to beach holidays and parties to family functions- you can never go wrong with a skirt.

When it comes to choosing the right skirt, one of the most important things to consider is the hemline or the length of the skirt. The right hemline can flatter your body and elongate your legs.

If you choose the right hemline depending on your age, height, structure and body type, and pair it with the right top, your #OOTD pictures will definitely trend on social media. Here’s what you need to know about the different hemlines and how to wear them-

The Mini Skirt

Though most suitable for petite women, mini skirts can be worn by one and all. These skirts end a few inches above the knee. Most flattering on thin-legged women, mini skirts are perfect for casual parties and clubs. Denim mini skirts paired with plain white or floral blouses are perfect for beach holidays.

During winter, leather mini skirts paired with tights or full-leg stockings with a nice collared jacket look elegant and classy.

When shopping for mini skirts, try and buy the length that hides the widest part of your thighs, so your legs look elongated and slender.

The Midi Skirt

When you want to give the sweet girl-next-door vibe, go for midi skirts. Midi skirts can be several inches below the knee and can be worn at formal as well as casual occasions and are ideal for women of all ages. Midi skirts have a truncated silhouette and are best-suited for thin women. Midi skirts might not be the most flattering choice for petite women as their personality might get lost in this hemline.

One of the best ways to wear midi skirts is to pair them up with body hugging tops or basic tees tucked in. If you want to have more fun with this look, go for high stilettos or pumps to compliment your overall style.

The Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts can look elegant and classy when paired with the right top. From off-shoulder florals to tank tops and crop tops to plain tees- maxi skirts can be worn with anything as far as the ensemble compliments your body type. For example, tall thin women can go for a plain round neck t-shirt or even a floral crop top paired with an A-line maxi skirt. Women who are more on the petite side, should avoid wearing maxi skirts that go beyond the ankles. They can instead, opt for the ones that end right above the toes.

To have some fun with this hemline, you can go for a slit maxi skirt. It gives a very chic and flirtatious vibe and slit maxis are perfect for parties. This hemline can be worn with all kinds of footwear- sneakers to heels and flats to ballerinas. Check out these runway trends of this year.

There is a skirt for all occasions. For the petite to the amazonian- there is a skirt for all body types. However, despite all the research and deliberation, if you still have one of those days when you just cannot decide on the right hemline. There is always a knee-length skirt to the rescue.

Every girl must have at least two knee-length skirts in their wardrobe. They end right above or below the kneecaps- are formal as well as fun and can be worn anywhere at any time. Knee-length skirts are appropriate for all body types, ages and occasions.
