The Sampan, which has been nominated as a finalist in the “New Restaurant of the Year” category by the World Gourmet Summit (WGS) has announced its participation in the 23rd edition of the iconic gastronomy festival.

Inspired by the WGS theme of sustainability, The Sampan, has curated a delicious menu that utilises ingredients and produce sourced from trusted local and regional suppliers.

For a limited period, from 1st – 14th of April, a delicious three-course lunch and dinner menu will feature Chef Ahmad’s unique play on popular Asian flavours and dishes. Expect carefully curated core ingredients that reflect the environmentally responsible farming and fishing practices supported by The Sampan.

Having sampled the dinner menu and the desserts from the lunch menu, we advise you to hurry on down to The Sampan at Boat Quay for a total taste sensation!


The World Gourmet Summit Three-Course Lunch Menu is priced at only $19++. You can enjoy an Appetiser (net bread with lemak chilli padi chicken, beef balls with soto madura or tofu telor with masalah squid) a Main (salmon belado with rosti and Asian acar, crispy duck confit with green sambal Ijo or tupeng rice stewed Balinese beef with pita bread) and a Dessert (onde onde blinis with pengat pisang ice cream or coconut crème brûlée).

We were lucky enough to actually sample the desserts and we can’t rave about them enough. Both the onde onde blinis and coconut crème brûlée were the best that we have ever tasted and trust us, we have tasted quite a bit. I would suggest being a bit of a piggy and getting them both.

The World Gourmet Summit Three-Course Dinner Menu is priced at $39++ The Appetisers include – Bone Marrow with Red Chimichurri – this was our favourite dish. The marrow simply melted in our mouths like butter and the flavour was rich and totally sinful. Stuffed Squid with Spicy Percik Sauce or The Sampan’s famous Pot Sticker Dumplings, all of which were amazing. 


The Mains include – Grilled Seabass with Sambal Mango Sauce, Tumpeng Rice and Indonesian Condiments Beef Cheek Rendang  or Gulai ‘Spencer Gulf King Prawns served with Ketupat and Asian Acar.

The desserts on offer include Black and White Glutinous Balls or Sujeonggwa Poached Pear with White Miso Caramel and Green Tea Ice-Cream.


The Sampan will also have pop-up booth at CHIJMES during the United Nations Gastronomy Assembly. For a $10 entry fee, foodies will get to sample some of Asia’s finest flavours from The Sampan‘s Chef Ahmad, who has personally crafted an unforgettable menu for this one-night-only Gastro-Market happening on Tuesday, 23rd April from 6pm – 10pm.

The Sampan  is located at 63 Boat Quay and is open weekdays for lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm and dinner from 5.00pm to midnight and Saturdays for dinner from 5.00pm to midnight. For reservations, you can contact them on 6732 1698.
