Sheet masks should be treated as an extension of your current skin care routine, and they’re a great way to give your face a little extra TLC. From drugstores to beauty counters, you can find them everywhere. But with so many options, it can be hard to determine which sheet mask you should use.
The key to choosing the right sheet mask is based on the skin issue that you are currently having trouble with.
We have tried and tested a number of popular sheet masks and have finally made a list of our favourites. These masks can be used to battle certain issues like breakouts or dehydration, or to give your face an extra boost whenever you need one.
BelleWave has a range of four sheet masks that target different skin issues. As an in-salon brand, you can expect the masks to be saturated with a generous amount of serum, more than enough to coat your face, neck and décolletage.
BelleWave Potent White Perfection Mask $88 (for a box of 5) – This comforting sheet mask drenches the skin with a generous dose of brightening actives. The intense formula accelerates cell renewal and lightens existing pigmentation and uneven skin tone, instantly leaving skin looking brighter and more radiant.
BelleWave Line Defense Perfection Mask $88 (for a box of 5) – With its blend of nutritious Wheat Germ Protein and gentle hydrators, this mask accelerates the skin’s reparative functions, while it firms and prevents the appearance of fine lines. This is a definite must before an important date or event as it instantly plumps skin, making makeup application a breeze.
BelleWave Hydra Soothe Perfection Mask $88 (for a box of 5) – This ultra-soft sheet mask is saturated with a hydrating essence that instantly diminishes signs of dryness and dehydration. Made with skin soothing botanical ingredients, it comforts and conditions dry skin upon contact. This is a must-have if you are travelling to a cold country or if your skin is dry and brittle. You can read our travel writer’s take on this mask here.
BelleWave ClearFX Perfection Mask $88 (for a box of 5) – If you have oily or blemish-prone skin or suffer from breakouts when PMSing, this mask is a definite must-have for you. It helps unclog pores, soothe irritation and induces a soothing effect on aggravated skin. An encapsulated sebum-regulating active ingredient reduces the formation of swellings and pimples, while an infusion of moisture revives the skin’s natural reparative functions to heal damaged tissues.
JYUNKA Absolute Mask $30 (per piece) This unique bio-cellulose mask soothes and hydrates the skin, giving it a radiant and supple appearance after just 20 minutes. When applied, it forms a protective membrane that efficiently transports the beneficial ingredients within the serum directly onto your skin, leaving it deeply hydrated and soft. The superfine fibre structure of the bio-cellulose mask (obtained by the natural fermentation of coconut water) allows it to fit like a second skin – unlike most sheet masks – thus maintaining dermal contact throughout the duration, no tugging and adjusting required. We absolutely love the feel and fit of this mask. To read a guy’s perspective on it, click here.
NU SKIN Tri-Phasic White® Mask $174 (for a box of 8) – This deeply moisturizing thick cottony mask is infused with a potent blend of ingredients that work to inhibit the activation and synthesis of skin discolouration. With frequent use, your skin will look more translucent, soft and even-toned, as the ingredients within the mask, inhibit the activation and synthesis of skin discolouration.
It illuminates skin tone, promoting a radiant and brighter complexion – and we can actually attest to this fact. Just after one use, the skin looks much more hydrated and brighter. The ingredients within also help to calm and soothe the skin by minimizing any irritation and redness.
The end result, is softer, smoother, brighter and more moisturised skin. This is also a definite must-have when travelling or before an important event.
THE FACESHOP Yehwadam Pure Brightening Nourishing Mask $9.90 (per piece) – This is a unique (well unique for me at least) two-step skin brightening mask that consists of four essence patches (what!), that deliver an extra boost to problem areas and a silk sheet mask to finish it all off. The mask is saturated in brightening, anti-ageing and moisturising serums and helps to instantly plump up the skin, improving any dullness, sallowness and blemishes.
With seven traditional skin brightening Korean herbs, this is a must for those of you who suffer from brown spots, pigmentation, sallowness and signs of ageing like wrinkles and dry skin.
Hada Labo Premium Hydro Gel Mask $5.50 (per piece) – The hydrogel material used in the mask works with the body’s natural temperature to boost the absorption of the active ingredients. A high concentration of six types of Hyaluronic Acid helps to hydrate the deeper layers of the skin, while Vitamin C and E inhibit free radical and repair cell damage caused by oxidation. Skin is more hydrated, brighter and radiant.
Facial masks not just plump up your skin and make it glow, it also gives you a few precious minutes of “me-time” when you can just switch off and unplug. If you want to ‘mask’ daily, just be sure to alternate between different types of masks so you dont overwhelm your skin with too much of one ingredient.
Sheet mask pro tip! After you cleanse (I would recommend exfoliating your skin before using a mask) and before you lay on the sheet mask, apply a serum or two first and then place the mask over it. This will help the nutrients of the mask better absorb into the skin!
