The traditional retail model has always been straightforward: browse, buy, use, and eventually throw away. But as Singapore pushes towards a zero-waste future and seeks to extend the lifespan of Semakau Landfill, our relationship with everyday goods is undergoing a quiet revolution. The emphasis is shifting away from simple disposal towards keeping materials in circulation for as long as possible.
Leading that charge this season is UOL Malls. Returning for its fifth iteration from 24 July to 23 August 2026, the ‘Green Movement With U’ campaign—organised in collaboration with the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) annual ‘Say YES to Waste Less’ initiative—is taking over Velocity@Novena Square and United Square with a fresh theme: Pre-Loved / Re-Loved.
Rather than a standard eco-fair, the activation reimagines the traditional department store concept through the lens of circular living. Built in partnership with circular design studio WASTD, the entire event space itself practice what it preaches, constructed using recycled textile boards, repurposed timber, and steel piping designed for future reuse.
Inside the Four Experiential Zones
The mall atrium setup breaks down the circular retail experience into four distinct, interactive spaces:
- The Window: A statement art installation featuring a reflective mirror crafted from individual fragments and framed with salvaged e-waste like computer keycaps and cables. Surrounding panels offer practical advice on how to properly care for, repair, and recycle electronics and textiles.
- The Floor: A bustling Pre-Loved Market featuring curated independent vendors. Shoppers can hunt through vintage fashion from Vintagewknd, pre-owned timepieces from Secondtick, stationery crafted from offcuts, retro vinyl records from Ronggeng Records, and pre-loved children’s items.
- The Studio: The practical heart of the activation, hosting hands-on upcycling workshops. Highlights include Vintagewknd’s Keychain Bar and PlasticTinkers’ 3D Printing sessions, alongside free weekday photo frame decorating and weekend mini-bin customisation with ALBA.
- The Checkout: The final stop translates intent into action. Here, shoppers can drop off old electronics and wearable textiles at dedicated collection points supported by ALBA and Re:Nue by The Salvation Army.
Dates, Locations, and Shopper Rewards
The campaign rolls out in two phases across the month:
- Velocity@Novena Square: 24 July to 2 August 2026
- United Square: 3 August to 9 August 2026 (United Square will also host a special circular-themed art exhibition by tenant Tree Art during this period).
To make conscious shopping even sweeter, UOL Malls is offering targeted perks for its loyalty members.
