The intersection of high art and high-street fashion is reaching a new milestone in Singapore this month. In a first-of-its-kind move, UNIQLO is partnering with the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) to launch a dedicated museum pop-up, transforming the gallery’s lobby into a vibrant celebration of “Art for All.”
Opening its doors for a two-month residency, the display bridges the gap between historical artefacts and modern wardrobes. At the heart of the showcase is a curated selection from the global UT universe, including the iconic NY POP ART series featuring Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, alongside a brand-new local collaboration: the UNIQLO x ACM UTme! Collection.
Bridging Centuries Through Design
The new collection, launching on 10 April 2026, breathes fresh life into the museum’s permanent archives. Five local artists—Knuckles & Notch, Gabriel De Souza, SONG, HAFI, and Nikkei—were invited to reinterpret historic objects through a contemporary lens.
From a whimsical take on a traditional pitcher to bold, graphic reimaginings of an antique candelabra, the designs translate Singapore’s identity as a cosmopolitan port city into wearable art.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to making the National Collection more accessible,” says Clement Onn, Director of ACM and the Peranakan Museum. “By engaging contemporary creative practice, we can interpret these cross-cultural works from fresh perspectives—connecting past and present.”
A Weekend of Curiosities
The pop-up’s debut coincides with Crossing Cultures, ACM’s signature festival. From 10 to 12 April, the museum grounds will host ‘A Weekend of Curiosities,’ a three-day celebration of intangible cultural heritage.
Visitors can expect a packed schedule of:
- Creative Workshops: Hands-on sessions led by local makers, including the team from Knuckles & Notch.
- Live Music & Cinema: Afternoon performances on the ACM Green followed by starlit outdoor film screenings.
- Exclusive Rewards: App users who share their experience on social media can snag a $6 UT voucher.
How to Shop the Collection
While the pop-up serves as the visual centerpiece, fans can head to UNIQLO’s UTme! stations at Orchard Central, ION Orchard, VivoCity, and Jewel Changi Airport to customise their own pieces.
As an added incentive for culture vultures, those who purchase an ACM x UTme! shirt from these stores can redeem complimentary access to the museum’s special exhibitions. This offer is limited to the first 100 redemptions per month and runs until 30 July 2026.
This collaboration isn’t just about fashion; it’s a testament to the LifeWear philosophy. As Daisuke Hamada, CFO of UNIQLO Singapore & ASEAN, puts it: “Art should be integrated into daily life.” By taking art off the walls and putting it onto the streets, this partnership ensures that Singapore’s rich heritage remains a living, breathing part of the local community.
