FIJI Water, the natural mineral water from the Fiji Islands, continues its journey towards environmental sustainability with the introduction of 100% recycled plastic (rPET) bottles. In Singapore, FIJI Water’s popular 500 ml and 330 ml bottles made from rPET are now available, reinforcing its commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
This shift represents a significant milestone, with FIJI Water replacing nearly 70% of its global bottle volume with recycled materials.
Leading The Way In Environmental Responsibility
“Our move to recycled plastic is part of a larger vision to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the environment,” said Wai Mei Lee, Vice President of International, FIJI Water. “By transitioning to rPET, we are repurposing existing materials while ensuring that our customers continue to enjoy the same superior taste and quality they’ve come to expect from FIJI Water.”
FIJI Water: Pure And Pristine
Known for its exceptional purity, FIJI Water is sourced from an artesian aquifer located deep beneath the Yaqara Valley of Viti Levu, Fiji. As tropical rain filters through layers of volcanic rock, it gathers naturally in this underground aquifer, untouched by external contaminants.
The water is then bottled at the source, ensuring it remains untouched until it is opened. This process preserves the naturally smooth and clean taste that has made FIJI Water a global favourite.
A Holistic Approach To Environmental Stewardship
FIJI Water’s commitment to environmental sustainability goes beyond its packaging. The brand has invested approximately FJ$5 million (SGD 2.98 million) into energy efficiency initiatives in Fiji. These include microturbine energy generation and the adoption of low-sulphur fuel standards for shipping, reducing the harmful effects of sulphur oxide emissions.
The FIJI Water Foundation, established in 2007, continues to play a crucial role in supporting the Fijian community and environment. The Foundation’s efforts include providing access to clean water and healthcare services, as well as funding local schools and community organizations. A significant project backed by the Foundation is the large-scale reforestation and conservation of the Sovi Basin, the largest remaining lowland rainforest in Fiji. This initiative, in partnership with Conservation International, is vital to protecting one of Fiji’s most important forest ecosystems.
A Global Commitment to Sustainability
FIJI Water is part of The Wonderful Company, a conglomerate known for its dedication to environmental responsibility. The Wonderful Company and its owners, Stewart and Lynda Resnick, have invested more than USD 1.3 billion in sustainability initiatives aimed at combating climate change. This includes a historic USD 750 million donation to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for sustainability research and USD 50 million to the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology to advance research on decomposable plastics, as well as other pressing global environmental challenges.
The Wonderful Company is also a proud member of RE100, a global coalition of businesses committed to using 100% renewable energy. This further reinforces FIJI Water’s commitment to sustainable practices and its role in shaping a greener future.
A New Look With A Nod To Nature
In addition to its environmental initiatives, FIJI Water has introduced a refreshed packaging design. The new look prominently features a hibiscus flower, a symbol of the natural beauty and tranquillity of Fiji.
This design evolution captures the essence of nature while promoting health, hydration, and a joyful lifestyle. The brand hopes that the vibrant packaging will add a visually appealing touch to store shelves, and offer consumers a reminder of the purity inside every bottle.
FIJI Water’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint is just one aspect of its broader sustainability strategy. To learn more about the company’s latest initiatives and to stay up to date with the brand’s news, visit FIJI Water Singapore.
