When I was younger, I never truly appreciated the impact our eyebrows had on our face, and foolishly spent a period of time over-plucking them, as one did then. I don’t think many of us realise just how crucial a role our brows play, both in our physical appearance and our ability to communicate. They are an important feature on our face as they frame our eyes and enhance our facial expressions, and the shape and thickness of our eyebrows can greatly influence our overall look, and can even change the perceived shape of our face.
As I have aged, I have found that my brows have gotten thinner, which makes me look older, something that I am not very pleased about. And if you are a subscriber to the magazine, you will know that there is only one place that I will ever entrust with my brows, and that is Allure Beauty, who if you are not too familiar with eyebrow embroidery or micro blading, are the pioneers of the art here in Singapore.
What Is Eyebrow Embroidery or Microblading
Eyebrow embroidery, also known as microblading or feather touch, is a technique that involves depositing custom blended pigment into the skin in hair-like strokes to create the appearance of fuller, more defined eyebrows. The technique is done using a handheld tool that has a row of tiny needles at the tip.
The needles are used to make small cuts in the skin, which then allows the pigment to be deposited in the cuts, resulting in a natural-looking, semi-permanent brow. While there are many places that offer the service, not all have the skills, experience or eye, to create the perfect brow according to your face shape and features.
Why You Should Consider Having It Done
There are several benefits to eyebrow embroidery. One of the main benefits is that it can be used to enhance or reshape your natural brows. This can be particularly helpful for those of you, like myself, who have thin or patchy eyebrows due to over-plucking, genetics, or medical conditions such as alopecia.
Additionally, since the pigment is inserted into the skin, the results can last for years, depending on your skin type, aftercare and the type of pigment used. It is a huge time-saving alternative to drawing in your brows daily.
It is also a great option for those who have allergies or sensitivities to traditional brow makeup. The results of the embroidery can be customised to your unique needs and preferences, to suit your facial structure and personal style, giving you the perfect look you desire.
I would personally recommend Joey Tnee, who has over the years, helped me choose the perfect brow shape and thickness to suit my facial features as I have aged and changed over the years. From thickening, lifting or shortening my brow shape according to what suits me best, it’s this ability to create the perfect shape for my face, at each point of time in my life, that makes Allure and Joey so skilled, and far superior than the other providers in the market, as far as I am concerned.
My Brow Experience, And What To Expect If It’s Your First Time
I had the Allure Signature Misty Eyebrow, which starts at $1477. The price will vary depending on who does it for you. As the co-founder, Joey’s rate is $2996, which I was more than happy to pay, as she has been doing my brows for my entire adult life. The Allure Signature Misty Eyebrow uses single strokes and natural based colour to create perfect, but natural looking brows. The whole process is painless thanks to the numbing cream that is applied beforehand.
You can expect your brow artist to use a brow pencil to find the perfect shape and thickness for your face before she blends the pigment to match your hair colour and starts the process.
You will need to go for a touch up in six to eight weeks to ensure that there is no fading, and so that any areas that need a little bit of touching-up, can be sorted. The touch-up is crucial, as it means that you will be able to enjoy your amazing brows for two to three years!
Aftercare involves keeping your brows covered when you shower, and avoiding wetting them for five to seven days, and applying an antiseptic cream ($55.40) to prevent infection, reduce inflammation and to prevent the colour from fading.
Just be sure not to confuse eyebrow embroidery or microblading with eyebrow tattooing, as they are two completely different things. Brow tattooing using an older technique and a permanent ink that over time turns green, just like an old tattoo would, which is not something you want on your face, while eyebrow embroidery uses a semi-permanent pigment that fades away over time, and looks more natural, with individual hairs drawn in amongst your real hairs, to add volume and shape to your existing brows.
