Let me start off by saying that I love milk. I grew up on all things dairy, but as I grew older, and wiser, and learned about the pointless cruelty behind the dairy industry (not to mention the fact that dairy milk is actually not such a great source of calcium as we were led to believe), I have been gradually making the switch, and am always on the look out for good dairy alternatives.
When OATSIDE, a new plant-based milk made from – you guessed it – oats, launched in Singapore this month, and sent me their products to trial, I was most excited. Oatmilk and rice milk are two of my favourite dairy alternatives, and a daily must-have in my home.
If you’re thinking, “do we really need another oat milk?” my answer is a resounding “yes”, because OATSIDE has to be the most creamiest and tastiest dairy alternative that I have ever tasted (and I have tasted many, if not all the brands available in the market mind you).
OATSIDE has cut out all the nasties like artificial flavours, gums, emulsifiers, preservatives and colouring, and focuses on sourcing only the highest-quality ingredients. And because it is made from oats, OATSIDE contains beta glucans – which is good for heart health, reduces cholesterol and boosts immunity, and is also low in saturated fats.
I bet you didn’t know that the production of oat milk requires 90% less land and water, and produces 70% less emissions as compared to cow’s milk, yet another good reason to make the switch if you haven’t already done so.
Meet The Oatside Variants
OATSIDE Barista Blend has a natural creaminess that gives body to coffees and teas, without overwhelming it. It also promises (I couldn’t test this fact out since I have zero barista skills) to create beautiful microfoam when steamed for latte art, a feat that has proved to be a challenge for other plant-based milks.
when I first tasted the OATSIDE Chocolate, I honestly didn’t realise that it was not dairy milk. This dark, rich and complex chocolate milk made with 100% Rainforest Alliance certified blend of Indonesian-African cacao beans contains no-added-flavours, and has less sugar than most chocolate milks.
But my favourite has to be the OATSIDE Chocolate Hazelnut which is so delicious that I drank half the carton in one sitting, and it was only sheer willpower that had me putting the rest down and stepping away. With its velvety smooth notes of dark- roasted hazelnuts and chocolate, OATSIDE Chocolate Hazelnut contains no-added-flavours, relying instead on a heavier dose of high-quality hazelnuts, which are 100% Rainforest-Alliance certified and sourced from Turkey.
All OATSIDE variants are made with Australian Oats and natural spring water, and are Halal-certified. OATSIDE is also one of Asia’s only “full-stack” food start-ups. This means that the brand retains complete control over the entire production process, from ingredient sourcing to oat extraction to filling. This control allows them to customise the production process and ensure that only sustainably-sourced ingredients of the highest quality are used.
