While a toner might look like water, and kind of act like water, trust me it couldn’t be further from plain H20! In fact depending on the toner, it can contain anything from acids, glycerin, antioxidants to anti-inflammatories and is a must-not-miss step in your daily skin care regimen.
The new breed of facial toners don’t contain alcohol, and instead work to hydrate the skin, minimise the appearance of pores, help rid the skin of excess dirt and oil, and prep your skin for the rest of your skin care products by enabling them to absorb better. EHA Mistique, the newly launched product by local Skincare brand EHA Skincare claims to be more than just a toner, and I was curious to see if it lived up to its promise.

About The Brand
If you are new to the brand, EHA Skincare is a niche local brand with a loyal cult following that has a small but comprehensive range of skin care products that are made in Japan, specifically for asian skin and the humid Southeast Asian climate. The products are so good that my editor swears by their 24 hour sunscreen and refuses to use any other brand.
I like the fact that the products are not overly packaged. In fact, what you get is just the bottle, no pointless boxes or fancy trappings, which means less wastage and pollution.
The Good Stuff Inside The Product
It’s made with mineral-rich water from the famous hot springs of Izumo Yumura in Japan and promises to repair, soothe and heal even the most irritated skin. This multi-tasking product with its unique formulation has been found to increase the moisture content of the skin, improve skin texture and boost skin healing.
Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, it can be used as a toner, and also sprayed on the face throughout the day to keep skin refreshed, cool, hydrated and glowing.
The healing spring water is combined with ceramides and Citrus Junos fruit extract for their barrier protecting and healing properties, Sodium Hyaluronate and glycerin for their moisturising properties, Ubiquinone and Tocopherol for their anti-oxidant properties and Japonica Bark extract for its ability to protect collagen and act as an anti-inflammatory agent, all while firming and moisturising the skin.
My Thoughts…
EHA Mistique acts as a humectant, binding moisture to the skin, keeping it plumped and hydrated. It also closes the pores and tightens cell gaps after cleansing, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants.
I personally like to use it in the morning after a shower and before I apply my moisturiser and sunscreen. Because I have normal to dry skin, I spritz around four to five pumps all over my face and gently pat it into my skin before applying my daily skin care. If I have a full day out and about, I repeat my toner step, so my face is saturated with as much moisture as possible, before I apply my face cream. I find this keeps my skin looking plump and hydrated until I get home at night, and it also prevents my face from feeling itchy and reactive, and as an added bonus, my makeup applies beautifully.
EHA MISTIQUE retails for $108 and is available online and is a must for those with dry, reactive, sensitive and itchy skin.
