Internationally-acclaimed fashion designer Eric Raisina showcased his original haute couture, accessories and his new silk collaboration with local artist Yun Long Zi at CHJIMES Hall recently.

Sponsored by Laurent-Perrier Champagne, The Weave Of Prosperity And Elegance was graced by fashion and art enthusiasts from all parts of the region. His Royal Highness Prince Sisowath Tesso of Cambodia was the Guest of Honour at the event.

Bringing Cross-Cultural Influences To Fashion

Eric Raisina is a Madagascar-born Cambodian fashion designer best known for his work with luxury brands like Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix. His fashion has also attracted several Hollywood celebrities, including the likes of Anne Bass and Angelina Jolie.

Raisina’s venture into fashion took off after winning the 1993 “New Young Designer of the Year” award at the Fashion Festival and Textile Competition in Madagascar, enabling him to travel to the Mecca of Haute Couture: Paris. In the City of Lights, he studied Textile and Fashion at école des Arts appliqués Duperré and later received a Master’s degree in Textile and Fashion from the Institut Français de la Mode. Raisina discovered new cultures and techniques in Africa and Asia and went on to start his own workshop where he trained weavers, sewers and embroiderers.

With The Weave Of Prosperity And Elegance, Raisina presented his critically acclaimed handmade silk fashion. This was the designer’s first-ever collaboration with Master Yun Long Zi. The weaving process was shown through a unique fashion show.

“We are ready to bring our new mood from cocoon to luxury wardrobe and so thrilled to announce our first collaboration with most amazing artist Master Yun Long Zi,” – Fashion Designer Eric Raisina

Blending Art With Fashion

Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi is an acclaimed artist, Chinese calligrapher and the man behind the prestigious Lotus On Water brand of galleries that won Golden Brand Award in 2007 and 2008, Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2008, and Successful Entrepreneur Award in 2010. His luxury art pieces are rendered in prized mediums such as pure gold and silver.

The luxury fashion show saw the launch of Yun Long Zi’s new paintings on Eric Raisina’s exquisite silk texture and the first public exhibition of Yun Long Zi’s 4th series Feng Shui fan paintings.

The Feng Shui fan paintings were the highlight of the evening for me as they were breath-taking. With symbols of good fortune and prosperity in the intricacies of art, these fans were painted using oil painting and radium colours that glowed in blue light or in the dark to form a starry-sky like pattern.
