It takes a certain type of person to turn their back on a lucrative career in Public Relations and all its many perks – a glamorous lifestyle, rubbing shoulders with the stars and being featured in the pages of fashion magazines… All for the sake of dogs.
Meet Marie Choo, founder and former owner of Alchemist PR, a successful public relations agency that counted a long list of highly popular fashion and lifestyle brands on its books.
Marie spent over a decade conceptualizing and organising events for clients, but that all changed in 2015 when she decided to follow her heart – leaving behind the glitz and excitement of public relations; to answer her calling as a dog behaviourist and trainer.
She first became involved in dog rescue and welfare in 2011 – working hands-on cleaning kennels, walking dogs, rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming. Soon after Marie started practising professionally as a behaviourist and trainer she became known as The Dog Alchemist.
But in her pursuit of raising further awareness and funds for dog welfare and rescue, Marie decided to start running in aid of various charities and organizations.
And while she started out not being able to finish a two-kilometre run, Marie now runs ultra-marathons around the world – and this year she’s stepping up her game; attempting her very first ultra trail distance of 100km.
And its a challenge she’s taking with quite a sense of urgency: this year the dog shelters at Pasir Ris Farmway have to find a new home, as the government is taking back the land that the shelter sits on. Many of the shelters affected are in dire straits as they have to build new infrastructure and purchase new items on top of keeping their residents fed and healthy.
This year, Marie won’t be running alone. She has roped in her running buddies, who will be participating in their own individual marathons in a bid to raise awareness and funds for the furries. Kerrin Kua, Alvin Png, Alex Ang, Lucas Ng, Chin Wei Chong, Evonne Ng, Gene Mari and Yu-Lyan Ng will all be doing their part for I RUN FOR RESCUE DOGS and so should we.
The money raised from this fundraiser will go towards helping Mdm Wong’s Shelter and Friends, Uncle Khoe’s k9 and Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter – OSCAS.
To help George and his friends, please donate generously by following the instructions below and sharing the link with all your friends – because while we may not have the stamina and physical endurance to last a lap, forget a marathon, we can do our bit to help.
