After having just about survived the festive season and the over-indulgences of New Year, there are still a lot of us out there who are carrying sore heads after a few too many parties and celebratory drinks…

So just for you, here are four fresh and delicious low calorie cocktails to get your spirits up again, without having to tax your stomach or your sobriety:

Smirnoff Bittersweet Crush

A soda-based concoction with a welcoming tart aftertaste, thanks to the addition of blood orange. At only 87 calories, it’s the perfect refreshing dinner-party drink minus the guilt.

25ml Smirnoff Vodka
1/3 small blood orange
10 raspberries
150ml soda

Method

Place the raspberries and slices of blood orange at the bottom of the tumbler and muddle (in a careful manner: the cocktail is best with the majority of the raspberries intact). Fill high to the brim with crushed ice and pour over a serving of Smirnoff. Decorate with a single blood orange segment.

Gordon’s Pomegranate Boire

Pomegranate has had a true revival over the past 12 months and is offset perfectly by the botanical, aromatic flavour of gin. The key to this cocktail is to add the pomegranate seeds to water and pour into an ice-cube tray.

Ingredients (serves 1)

25ml Gordon’s London Dry Gin
200ml slimline tonic (making this cocktail only 92 calories)
4tbsp pomegranate seeds

Method

Add the ice cubes, gin and tonic to a Copa glass; stir gently with a cocktail server. Enjoy.

The Captain’s Berry Daiquiri

The lowest-calorie cocktail here at only 69 calories, this blackberry beverage is made sweet with stevia: sugar’s better-looking sister. A cocktail shaker is preferred to mix the ingredients, but we’ve found that a jam jar works just as well in times of need.

Ingredients (serves 1)

25ml Captain Morgan White Rum
¼ cup of blackberries (plus a few extra for serving)
1tsp stevia
Ice

Method

Crush the blackberries without mercy – it’s crucial to get the berries fully pulped otherwise this ends up looking a little more smoothie-esque. Add the berry juice to a cocktail shaker-cum-jam-jar, along with the stevia, ice and Captain Morgan White Rum. Shake until you can shake no more. Add the leftover berries and serve in a short tumbler over ice.

Tanqueray Yuzucha

A primary ingredient of this cocktail is kombucha, the fermented, lightly effervescent tea drink that’s now well known for its health benefits. The key to this cocktail is to source fresh yuzu – even a squeeze elevates the drink to new heights.

Ingredients (serves 1)

25ml Tanqueray London Dry Gin
500ml ginger kombucha
A squeeze of fresh yuzu (or lemon, if you’re really struggling)
Fresh mint
Small handful of ice

Method

Combine the Tanqueray London Dry Gin, kombucha, ice and the citrus fruit you’ve managed to source in a glass and mix. Garnish with fresh mint.
