The Central Business District isn’t exactly short of coffee spots, but the concrete expanse of Asia Square Tower 1 has recently welcomed a newcomer that brings something genuinely distinct to the lunch-hour rush. Officially opening its permanent doors after a successful stint in Hong Kong, MIMMO Bakery Singapore introduces an intriguing blend of French and Italian pastry precision mixed with classic Hong Kong flavours.
Intrigued by the pedigree of Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Domenico “Dom” Giammarella, I dropped by to see if the reality lived up to the culinary hype.
The space itself manages to strike a rare balance for a financial district café—it feels bright, open, and remarkably relaxed despite the hum of office professionals passing through. But while the sleek, contemporary interior makes for a lovely escape from my laptop screen, it was the counter display that truly demanded my attention.
First up was the savoury side of things. I opted for one of their freshly made sandwiches, which arrived with a remarkably generous filling. In a neighborhood where grab-and-go options can often feel a bit hollow and uninspired, this was a satisfyingly hefty affair—proper comfort food executed with artisanal care.
Then came the real test. I have an admission to make: I am traditionally not a fan of egg tarts. The overly intense, custard-heavy egginess of most traditional versions usually puts me off after a single bite. However, MIMMO’s Signature Egg Tart ($4) completely converted me.
The pastry base boasted a spectacular, multi-layered crispiness that shattered beautifully upon impact. More importantly, the filling struck the ultimate balance—it was silky, light, and wonderfully delicate without that overwhelming egginess that usually deters me. Even if you think you don’t like egg tarts, this one is an absolute must-try.
To finish, I dived into the Tiramisu ($12). It was a beautifully textured rendition of the Italian classic, but what elevated it from good to memorable was the inspired addition of hazelnuts. The nutty crunch provided a brilliant textural contrast to the velvety espresso-soaked layers, adding an earthy depth that cut through the richness beautifully.
Whether you are slipping out for a quick midday sanity break or looking for a comforting bite to fuel a long afternoon of meetings, MIMMO Bakery is a genuinely stellar addition to the downtown food scene. MIMMO Bakery Singapore is located at 8 Marina View, Asia Square Tower 1, #01-05, and is open Mon–Fri: 8am–7pm | Weekends & PH: 9am–6pm.
