Have you ever been through your wardrobe and made a face at everything you’ve pulled out? Or put on an outfit you thought you were going to love, only to be disappointed once you see it altogether? Then there’s a chance your style isn’t quite right for you. That’s quite a common conundrum to find yourself in – but that doesn’t make it any less annoying!

So it’s time to try and find a style that does feel more like ‘you’. And to help set you off in the right direction, we’ve listed a couple of the most common reasons why people end up with this kind of wardrobe problem. Think about whether they apply to you and then go from there!

You’re Shopping in the Wrong Places

Sometimes we can only get a hold of the right clothing when we turn to places that stock random, old, and altogether characterful stuff that no one else wants. A.k.a., charity shops, thrift stores, and vintage boutiques!

And you can shop for the right kind of clothing without even leaving the house. Just head onto eBay and see what’s just been listed, and curate your feed to get more and more of the same style of clothing.

Plus, it’s usually a lot cheaper to thrift at least half your wardrobe, and then top it up with pieces from the more popular retail stores.

You’re Holding Off on Wearing the Things You Really Want to Wear

Things like our budget and being concerned about what other people might think often hold us back from wearing what we really want to wear. And while there’s not much you can do about the first problem, unfortunately, there’s plenty you can do about the second!

If someone has ever made you feel bad about a style choice, consider the kind of long-term effect it’s had on you. Are you still living with the idea that wearing something more dark and gothic is just ‘weird and edgy’? Or perhaps you’ve been told you shouldn’t wear certain clothing cuts, as you ‘don’t have the body for it’?

And even your jewellery falls into this bracket. If you’ve been considering a lip piercing but have never taken the plunge – maybe because someone’s said it isn’t the right thing for you – prove them wrong! Get the piercing that will help you express yourself and wear it with pride.

No matter what kind of close-minded, unfair ignorance has prevented you from properly exploring the style you actually like, go for it now. You don’t have to wear what other people think is right. You only ever have to wear what you think is right!

Remember: Your Style is Up to You!

When your style doesn’t feel quite right, you don’t have to get stuck in it. Figure out what’s going wrong, shop in new and different places, and let go of anything someone’s told you before about what you should and shouldn’t wear!
