We all know that Singapore has a vibrant culinary scene, but it isn’t just about chilli crabs and laksa, you know. It’s also a pizza lover’s paradise. I love a good pizza; it’s the comfort food of choice for many of us, and being vegetarian and allergic to many things, it is often a safe option for me.
So, I have been eager to explore and search for the best pizza in Singapore to satisfy my cravings. And I think I have cracked it.
I have rounded up five must-try spots that’ll tantalise your taste buds and leave you craving more. Get ready for a pizza the action, Singapore style.
Authentic Neapolitan: L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele
For pizza purists, visiting an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria is a must. The focus is on simplicity and tradition, using quality ingredients to create a genuine taste of Naples, where pizza was born. One standout spot is L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, which adheres to the strict guidelines of Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, and this chain of restaurants was ranked 2nd place in the Top 50 World Artisan Pizza Chains in 2023. The wood-fired oven pizzas achieve that perfect blend of a crispy crust and soft base.
Their Margherita is a crowd favourite, with its Agerola fior di latte and Pecorino cheeses, San Marzano tomatoes, and fresh basil. Pair your pizza with a glass of Italian red wine and finish with an affogato to indulge while dining in this cosy Italian-style eatery.
Pro tip: Visit on weekdays to avoid the weekend crowd and enjoy a more relaxed dining experience.
Newpolitan Style: La Bottega Enoteca
Ranking 15th in the top 50 pizzas in Asia Pacific 2024 (Singapore’s highest ranking) and claiming the Top Pizzeria in Singapore 2024 award, La Bottega Enoteca has become an essential spot for pizza since its opening in 2021. With Italian Antonio Miscellaneo at the helm, this quaint, brick-walled restaurant offers a slice of Italian life in Katong.
I am a beast for burrata; its creamy, cheesy, melty goodness makes me weak at the knees. Undoubtedly, the Burrata pizza from their Neapolitan menu is my new best friend in bread and cheese. The 48-hour fermented dough is smothered with the best tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and that dreamy, delicious burrata before being cooked at 460℃. Bellissimo!
Pro Tip: Try their Double Crunch Roman-style pizza/sandwiches.
Veggie And Vegan Friendly: Pizza Fabbrica
If you want amazing vegetarian and vegan fare, check out Pizza Fabbrica. The contemporary, relaxed atmosphere pairs beautifully with the fantastic food and drink, making it an excellent place for a date night or a gathering of friends. The fact that they make vegan pizza that includes the “Impossible” brand of meat substitutes and potato cream instead of cheese makes it a winner in my eyes.
But, being a cheesy gal, the Mediterranea topped with mozzarella, tomato sauce, tomato Confit, Taggiasca olives, capers, and oregano has me licking my lips. Bonus: They sell French fries, and if you know anyone Irish, you know that we love chips with everything!
Pro Tip: Ask for their wine suggestions to pair with your food.
A Modern Classic: Fortuna
Warm wood and terracotta leather furnishings create a relaxed but welcoming environment in this Craig Road Trattoria and Pizzeria. Fortuna has an air of modernity but a timeless feel and is quickly earning a reputation as one of the best Italian restaurants in Singapore.
With some delicious pies to choose from, I am torn between the simple Aglio & Olio made with cream cheese, basil and chilli oil, scallions and parsley or the slightly more adventurous Norma topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, ricotta salata, pesto and crispy eggplant chips.
Pro Tip: Make weekdays more palatable with a delicious Italian set menu at Fortuna.
Bit Apple Style: Fernando’s New York Slices
Yes, the Italians invented pizza, and Napoli is the true home of our favourite food, but New York has made it their own. With a pizza slice shop in almost every neighbourhood, it has become one of the Big Apple’s iconic dishes. And Singapore has its own New York-style pizza spot: Fernando’s.
Deciding to be eh, healthy in my choice, I opt for Popeye’s Fave, chock-full of spinach, eggplant, zucchini, cream cheese, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, mixed herbs and homemade pesto. This feast of vegetarian goodness would be outstanding on its own, but paired with one of Fernando’s pizza dipping sauces (I choose the hot spicy oil), it is truly flavourful. Yum.
Pro Tip: If you can’t decide on just one pizza, go for a Half & Half and get two different types in one!
If you are down Singapore way and need a fix of crispy bread with sauce and toppings, aka pizza, check out some of these fine eateries, and you won’t be disappointed.
