In a world where sustainability has become more than just a buzzword, it’s imperative that we address the staggering amount of waste generated by our consumption habits. Take for instance the shocking statistics from the National Environment Agency (NEA) – in 2022 alone, Singapore produced a whopping 254,000 tonnes of textile waste, with a mere 2% of that being recycled.
With Semakau, Singapore’s only landfill, projected to reach capacity by 2035, it’s clear that we need to take urgent action to curb this unsustainable trend. Enter prettyFIT, a leading fashion brand, on a mission to make a positive impact on the environment. In collaboration with circular fashion enterprise, Cloop, prettyFIT has launched a groundbreaking recycling initiative aimed at tackling the issue of textile waste head-on.
From now until 30 June, shoppers can do their part by dropping off their pre-loved shoes at designated Cloop Recycling Bins located in prettyFIT’s CityLink and VivoCity stores. These shoes will then be collected by Cloop and put through a meticulous process of reuse, repurpose, and recovery.
Founded in 2019, Cloop is dedicated to closing the textile loop by providing solutions for preloved apparel and promoting sustainable shopping alternatives. Through their partnership with prettyFIT, they aim to combat fashion overconsumption and waste by giving discarded items a new lease on life.
Once collected, the shoes are sent to an ISO Certified zero-waste textile recovery and sorting factory. Here, they undergo a thorough process of breakdown, processing, and sorting into more than 500 categories to ensure that nothing goes to waste.
Sophia Ng, Founder of prettyFIT, emphasises the importance of collective action in addressing the pressing issues of overconsumption and waste. “At prettyFIT, we believe that collective action helps address the issues of overconsumption and waste,” she says. “Through this partnership with Cloop, we want to play our part to help spread the message on the benefits of recycling for a cleaner and greener planet, as well as to give our customers a platform to donate their well-loved shoes for this important cause.”
So next time you’re thinking of decluttering your shoe collection, consider giving them a second life through prettyFIT’s recycling initiative. Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
