Apart from tackling the joys of eczema, I have also been blessed with congested and acne-prone skin (I’m truly a genetic lottery winner). Having not had much luck in keeping my skin blackhead-free, I decided to try out Ensoul’s Signature Acne Medi Facial, a 90-minute medical-grade treatment that they customise for each person’s skin type. The medi facial is formulated to address acne-prone and oily skin gently and effectively, and I went in hoping that it would deliver what it promised.
After a lengthy consultation, where I discussed my skin concerns and many allergies and triggers, a customised facial treatment plan was drawn up for me.
The objective of my treatment was to use a combination of energy-based devices alongside medical-grade ingredients to treat, prevent further breakouts, reduce redness, inflammation and boost my skin’s defence against bacteria and free radicals.
What Ensoul’s Signature Acne Medi Facial Promises
The medi facial promises the following results:
• Enhance skin cell renewal as it sloughs away dead skin cells to reveal brighter skin
• Unclog pores, while controlling excess sebum production
• Decrease acne-causing bacteria
• Lighten mild hyperpigmentation and acne scars, while reducing redness and inflammation
• Improve skin texture and tone
This treatment is recommended for those with acne-prone, or oily skin, and has no down time.
My Experience
My treatment started off with my therapist giving my face a good double cleansing followed by a medical-grade chemical peel. Because my skin is highly reactive, my therapist kept a keen eye out for any flare ups, and neutralised the solution in a few minutes.
The peel gently exfoliates dead skin cells, to reveal brighter and healthier skin. This was also the first time I had a medical-grade peel, and I absolutely loved the results.
Chemical peels work by removing excess sebum and debris from the skin’s follicles, neutralising active acne lesions and preventing future acne outbreaks. It also brightens the skin, so you literally look fairer, clearer and better the next day.
Remember I mentioned that my skin was super congested? well I was very pleased when my therapist began extracting my stubborn comedones. Not only was she dedicated and thorough, she was so gentle, I hardly felt any discomfort, let alone pain.
The next step was the Photo facial IPL Therapy or Acne Light Therapy which is used to destroy acne-causing bacteria (C.acnes), control overactive oil glands and reduce inflammation and redness. The additional benefit of IPL is that it instantly rejuvenates the skin and lightens the dark spots caused by acne hyperpigmentation scaring.
IPL can stimulate collagen synthesis under the skin’s surface and reduce the size of pores, resulting in a smoother, more even tone and complexion.
This was followed by Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (Hair Removal). This step is said to significantly reduce breakouts as the bacteria is no longer able to cling to the fine facial hair that causes acne breakouts. This step would need several sessions before the hair was permanently reduced, so don’t expect miraculous results after just one session.
My therapists then used the EL Plus Ultrasound Recovery Therapy, which uses the Local Dynamic Micro Ultrasound technology with Dr KT’s Skin Revitaliser Serum. This proprietary serum is a specially formulated cocktail packed with potent, active, medical-grade ingredients that helps to reverse cell damage and stimulate faster skin recovery.
Because we live in an urban environment and are exposed to environmental stressors that affects our skin, this treatment delivers the different frequencies to help to control the activity of enzymes called Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) which are involved in connective tissue metabolic disorders. Decreasing unfavourable MMPs reduces inflammation in the skin, while providing deep nourishment.
With the additional benefit of increasing the production of Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) that helps to build the skin immunity, it provides deep repair that helps rebuild the full structure of the skin.
Not only does the treatment control bad enzymes and activate HSPs, it also increases the moisture content within the skin and accelerate its metabolism. By increasing skin turgor, it helps improve skin texture, skin tone, and reinforces the skin’s immunity barrier.
The final step was the Premium Cool-Peel Mask which is rich in vitamins A (retinol), C and E, all recognised for their anti-ageing activities. While stimulating the cell’s renewal, the menthol cryo-complex content in the mask has a calming and refreshing action.
The mask contains algae that help cool and refresh the skin. Furthermore, it also tightens pores, improves blood circulation and increases oxygen supply.
Final thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed the treatment. My therapist was highly skilled and the treatment did improve my skin congestion, and my complexion did look brighter and fairer for the next few days. But this is not a one time treatment. To see optimal results, you do need to go back monthly.
Did my complexion improve? Yes it did up to a point, although if I continued, I feel that I would have seen better results. All in all, I definitely think it’s worth trying if you have acne or congested skin.
