Drops of Youth™ concentrate has been one of The Body Shop’s best-selling products, with a bottle sold every 20 seconds around the world. So why did the brand change it? It’s about going back to the brand’s activist roots. From the outset, The Body Shop Founder, Anita Roddick ripped up the norms and codes of the beauty industry. She campaigned tirelessly on human rights and environmental issues as well self-esteem.

In 2021, The Body Shop launched a self-love campaign to inspire inner confidence and commissioned a Global Self Love Index. The findings couldn’t be clearer: majority of people globally think the beauty industry can have a negative impact on self-confidence. This mostly stems from the use of airbrushed or altered images and unrealistic claims.

The Index served as a final catalyst for the brand to review and reflect on its own practices and make the firm decision to clean up its own house, where it felt it was falling short of its founding values.

Skin Resilience Starts With A Tiny White Flower

Edelweiss, a flower that grows in the Swiss Alps, has become a popular ingredient in skincare products in recent years. This is due to its unique properties that make it highly beneficial for the skin. Edelweiss contains high levels of antioxidants, which protect the skin from environmental stressors such as UV radiation and pollution. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and irritation in the skin.

Additionally, edelweiss has been found to have anti-aging benefits, thanks to its ability to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. Its natural ability to retain moisture also makes it a popular ingredient in moisturizers and serums. As consumers become more interested in natural and sustainable skincare options, edelweiss has become a popular choice due to its effectiveness and eco-friendliness.

The powerful natural protection systems found in Edelweiss make it the ideal skincare ingredient. It’s no wonder, the new range has been reformulated to deliver double the concentration of Edelweiss in every drop, for stronger, smoother-looking skin.

The properties of Edelweiss have also been clinically proven to be 43% more powerful in antioxidant activity than Retinol*. It also helps maintain skin barrier health and smooth the skin surface.

A Quick Look At The Edelweiss Range

The new name also comes with a new formula and extended line-up. The game changer is the Edelweiss extract containing Leontopodic acid, a unique and powerful ingredient that’s 60% stronger than ferulic acid5, a known antioxidant.

Made within strict ‘green chemistry’ principles, the Edelweiss is organically farmed and harvested by hand by The Body Shop’s trusted supplier. It is carefully and respectfully cultivated in areas where the flower is not endangered, to respect the Alpine biodiversity. It is then extracted using zero chemical waste, first through drying the plant, and then distilled using a renewable process.
