Let me start off by saying that I have very dehydrated skin. On the outside, I am oily and congested, but on the inside, my skin is parched. Unfortunately many therapists tend to use the words “dehydrated” and “dry” interchangeably, and as a result I spent the good part of my adult life using oil-rich products to combat a dry skin condition that I didn’t suffer from, resulting in congestion and breakouts.
If you are as confused as I was, let me simplify it. Dehydrated skin lacks water, while dry skin lacks natural oils. Dry skin is also a skin type, while dehydrated skin on the other hand is a skin condition. So while I should have been using products rich in hyaluronic acid to trap precious moisture within my skin, I was drowning it in oil instead.
To make matters worse, as we age, our skin gets more dehydrated, so no matter how much hydrating topical products I used, beneath the surface, my skin was still as thirsty as ever. This led me to make an appointment with my trusted skin doctor, Dr Elias Tam from EHA Clinic. I have been going to him for the past several years for a variety of issues, from acne scarring to non-surgical facelifting, and I wanted to see what he thought I should do for my dehydrated skin.
After careful examination, Dr Tam recommended I try Volite combined with PICO laser. I had heard great things about the use of Volite for dehydrated skin, but had never actually tried it before, so I was quite excited, and I also liked the concept of combining a skin booster with laser, for even better results.
After 30-minutes of numbing cream, Dr Tam first used PICO laser on a lower setting to gently stimulate my skin and improve my skin tone and glow. After a very comfortable session, he injected several points on my face with JUVÉDERM® Volite Skin Booster. Even if you are afraid of needles and have a low pain threshold, I think you will find the treatment very bearable. It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep during my treatment.
Having noticed that I have deep lines under my eyes, Dr Tam used a cannula and inserted a little bit of Volite under my eyes to help soften and smoothen the deep creases. This is what I love about his style. He thinks outside the box and customises the treatment based on what issues I had.

The Hyaluronic acid in Volite attracts and traps water within the dermis, and gives thirsty skin a much needed boost of pure hydration. Volite also promotes collagen production that results in firmness, elasticity and smoothness of the treated area. When skin is deeply hydrated, fine lines and wrinkles diminish, leaving it looking fuller, plumper and bouncier.
This innovative injectable treatment is designed to improve skin quality for up to nine months. It is not a dermal filler, but a skin conditioning Hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. Volite is injected into the middle layers of the dermis across many sites to nourish the skin from the inside out. It is designed for use on the face, neck, décolletage and hands. After treatment, there is typically some redness that goes away in under an hour and results start to appear immediately, and come fully into effect over the next 10-14 days.
If you have ageing, dehydrated or even normal healthy skin, I totally recommend you try JUVÉDERM® Volite skin booster. It’s been exactly two weeks since my treatment and my skin looks and feels so much bouncier, and even though my period is due in a few days, my skin has not broken out, and it does not look blotchy and irritated, instead it’s glowing and happy!
I paid $1800 for two syringes of Volite (it is recommended to use one syringe per side of the face) and I couldn’t be happier with the results. If you would like to schedule an appointment with Dr Tam or learn more about the treatment, call 6235 3325 or go here.
