At the expense of sounding boastful, I have always had an enviably oval-shaped face. Then one morning I woke up and my face looked more like a box than a lovely oval, and that’s the precise moment when I realised that I had grown old.
For most of my life I thought my mother had a square-shaped face and my siblings and I used to call her ‘box head’ (amongst ourselves of course), but now I realise that the boxy shape of her face was simply age showing its cruel hand, literally changing the shape of her once round face into a square.

As we age, the shape of our face changes. Cheeks that were once plump begin to deflate, previously sharp jawlines lose their definition, pores enlarge and skin becomes more textured, pigmented and uneven. After shocking myself many a morning when accidentally looking into the mirror, I decided to give the Dermalift a try.
The Dysport Dermalift is a skin tightening procedure that involves the injection of diluted Dysport (a type of botulinum toxin) into the skin. This tightens, lifts and makes the skin and facial contours look smoother and better. The whole process takes between 45 minutes to an hour, including the application of the numbing cream. While some might find it a bit painful (it’s somewhat similar to Rejuran), think little ant bites, I personally found it completely bearable.
After the procedure, I could immediately see that my cheeks had lifted, my jawline had tightened, my pores had literally shrunk and and face just looked so much less boxy. While still not the perfect oval of my youth, it was so much better than it originally was. I truly love the effects of the treatment and was tempted to “add more” to increase the lift, but was advised against it.
A few days later, I realised that the right side of my mouth did not quite match the left, lifting with slightly less enthusiasm when I smiled wide (the kind where you flash all your teeth). The doctor examined it and suggested that since everything else was in perfect symmetry, I should just leave it be, and let it slowly subside by itself within the next three to four weeks. The lack of symmetry is not totally obvious unless I flash all my teeth, and what with masks being mandatory, no one actually gets to see my face, so all in all while not ideal, it’s fine.
Should You Try It?
I think it’s worth giving it a go. I really loved how my face just seems to get tighter and smoother and more lifted. The results while not dramatic, were still visible and made a difference. I almost looked like I did before my face turned into a square. Understand however that the results are not long lasting – it can last you three months tops and you do need to do it every three months to maintain the results. Also there is a chance that you might have some areas that are little higher or lower than they should be, but this asymmetry can be fixed, or if left alone will sort itself out in three to four weeks.
Would I do it again? The short answer is ‘yes’. I am not at the point in my life where I am comfortable with fillers and threads, and I do love how it made my skin look flawless and my face lifted and more youthful.

If you would like to find out more about the Dermalift, call the Wellness Clinic which is located at 501 Orchard Road, #04-01 Wheelock Place, Singapore 238880. Tel: 6732 0812.
The treatment will cost you from $700 upwards, depending on how many units of Dysport you require. Since I had a normal sized face without too much sagging, my session cost me $700 and I really do feel that it was money well spent.
Very interesting, since I’m 37 going 38 years old and totally understand you. I might try profhilo for the first time this year, along with some filler on jawline and tear trough on the undereye area. So far I did botox, radiesse and filler on lips. Botox and filler on lips I really like it, but radiesse I don’t think it’s for me. Anyway sorry I start talking about what I did, but I so identified myself in your post. I think the treatment you did is still expensive, but if it works, you are right it’s worth it. Thank you for sharing this with us, because some women don’t like to talk about it Xx

Don’t apologize for sharing, it was great to read about what you have done, cos I am a newbie when it comes to injectables.
Filler under your eye area is fantastic. I have friends who have done it and they look so rested. I am planning to do Botox for bruxism cos I grind my jaw and would like to try a little Botox on my forehead in the future.
Yes I agree that it’s expensive, but it’s so good to feel attractive and look less tired, so it’s worth it 🙂
I wish more women were open about such things cos we could share our experiences and it would greatly help when deciding what to do next.
Take care and thank you for sharing your aesthetic journey. x
