Menstrual pain is not a laughing matter with around 80% of women experiencing period pain at some stage in their lifetime. Luckily for me, my periods haven’t caused me any physical pain per se, but it screws up my already messed up skin and makes me clumsy to the point of accidentally causing grievous hurt to myself.

Period cramps are usually a result of a hormonal imbalance, which can start before the period commences and last for several days. The hypothalamus controls the output of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), both of which are created in the pituitary gland. To help alleviate period cramps, fatigue and other painful symptoms of PMS, Scarlet works to regulate the pituitary gland to help balance these hormones.

Curious but skeptical about its effectiveness, I decided to give the product a try for a month, exactly ten days before my period was due. As I write this review I am down to my final bottle, and while I enjoyed consuming it tremendously for its taste, I have to admit that it seems to be working.

Buh Bye PMS

The Scarlet Company hopes to educate people and eliminate the age old misconception around menstruation. They want to remove the shame and stigma often associated with it, and create awareness about the importance of menstrual health and the benefits it has to the physical as well as mental wellbeing of a woman.

Scarlet is a 100% natural, halal certified, vegan and gluten-free tonic, that is certified food-safe (ISO 22000).

It is a blend of super herbs like Chasteberry which naturally stimulates and normalizes the pituitary gland and Wild Yam which was used by the Aztecs and Mayans as an effective remedy against menstrual and labour pains and is widely used by herbalists for its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory benefits.

With a combination of other natural ingredients including calcium, magnesium, vitamins D, E, B6 and B12, which are known to be effective in relieving the symptoms of PMS, Scarlet helps fight against symptoms like mood swings, bloating, acne and anxiety and also helps regulate the flow.

Depending on the person, the effects of Scarlet might take around three to six months for the results to show, as the tonic needs time to help balance the hormone levels and alleviate PMS symptoms naturally.

How Do I Subscribe

The process is simple. Simply log on to their website, enter your next period date and submit your information. A box of eight Scarlet tonics will be delivered to your doorstep ten days before your period is due each month.

For best results, drink one bottle a day (70 ml) during the luteal phase (around 8-10 days before your period is due). The luteal phase is extremely important in a menstrual cycle because it’s during this time that the luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormone levels decrease while estrogen level rise. Scarlet helps regulate the right balancing of hormones for a healthy, pain-free, clear skinned period.

Final Verdict

The whole process, from ordering to receiving the items was a breeze. The drink is delicious. It is like a slightly tart pink guava juice and I enjoyed it tremendously (I consumed it chilled).

While I was advised that I would need to take it for at least three to six months to see results, I did notice that for the first time, I did not suffer from cystic acne and my skin looks perfectly clear and healthy and not the over sensitised wreck it usually looks like around this time (before my period is due, apart from breakouts, my skin texture is uneven and disgusting).

While I am still clumsy, I haven’t walked into a wall and concussed myself yet, and my mood while being mildly irritable seems more balanced. Do I think it works, I would say yes, or its a huge coincidence (and I don’t believe in coincidences) that I skipped my period symptoms this month (something that never happens).

Whether you have bad period pains or mild symptoms, I think this is definitely worth trying, especially if you like tasty guava juice.

A month’s supply is priced at $69.90 for a box of 8 bottles with free delivery within Singapore. Subscribe for your box of Scarlet here.
