Following the recent success of its range of Micellar Water, local aromatherapy and skincare brand HYSSES launched their HYSSES BB Cream range.

The range consists of 3 BB Creams, including the hydrating Rose Sandalwood, oil-controlling Tea Tree Hinoki and restorative Geranium Chamomile. Each BB Cream has three shades to match different skin tones.

I got to try out the Rose and Sandalwood version in the shade Ivory, which turned out to be a good fit for my normal to dry skin. The texture of the BB Cream was light and provided a very sheer veil of coverage.

I think it would work well as a tinted moisturizer that goes the extra mile to even out skin tone and provide protection from the sun. I found it to be great for everyday wear and I use it when I do not want to put on a full face of make up, but yet want to fake having better skin. I also use it as a primer and appreciate the fact that it made my pores look a little less obvious.

But because the coverage is rather sheer, I still find myself reaching for a concealer to hide my acne scars, dark circles and pigmentation.

I heard that the brand is ready to launch a larger range of BB Cream in the near future and I am really looking forward to trying the range out.

One thing I appreciate is how the brand, being an aromatherapy specialist, marries skincare with makeup by using natural ingredients and essential oils. As the name suggests, my BB cream was formulated with sandalwood and rose essential oils that were both steam-distilled.

Rose essential oil reduces redness and inflammation, evens out skin tone and also balances the skin’s pH level. The antioxidants (it’s high in Vitamin C) within protects the skin cells from UV damage while it moisturizes and soothes skin.

Sandalwood essential oil on the other hand, has anti-aging properties that can help prevent wrinkles and fights free radicals. This multitasking skin-friendly oil soothes, moisturizes, exfoliates and whitens. The natural skin lightening agents also brightens skin tone. I have a couple of acne scars from a recent mini breakout, so I was really happy to learn that sandalwood oil also prevents acne and has healing properties that can help fade acne scars.

For those who are used to their skincare smelling very floral, fruity or sweet, the subtle fragrance of this BB Cream might take a little getting used to. Being an essential oil fan, I personally like how the BB Cream smells even though the woody aroma of sandalwood is a little more prominent than the rose.

The HYSSES BB Cream retails for $45.90 / 50ml and is available at all HYSSES outlets.
