Last week M.A.C. Cosmetics’ Lyne Desnoyers- Executive Director, Global Makeup Artistry and Regan Rabanal- Senior Manager, Regional Makeup Artistry were in Singapore to talk about M.A.C. Spring 2020 launches in a private media event held at Botany Robertson Quay.
The artists spoke about the beauty and fashion trends to look out for next season while giving a live make-up demonstration using some of the latest M.A.C. products.
Get Edgy Looks With Bold Makeup Colours
The M.A.C. Spring/Summer 2020 collection features a colour palette that is rich, bright and vibrant. From bold colours like red and yellow to vivid shades of saffron and aqua- Spring/Summer 2020 is all about expressing one’s individuality with colours.
In line with this trend, Desnoyers and Rabanal presented their creative renditions of the beauty brand’s makeup colours at the event while sharing expert tips on how you can rediscover your look in the new year with an edgy makeover. After all, the new year represents the beginning of a transition.
Desnoyers said, “For Spring/Summer 2020, colour takes centre stage at the runways in New York and is applied across all features to bring out one’s uniqueness. Bright colours are often associated with fun and positivity and they can bring out the best in an individual. At the same time, there’s the emergence of dark-coloured strokes, which offers wearers a more confident look.”
Spring/Summer 2020: Experimenting With Looks
Spring/Summer 2020 is about bold colours and strong personalities, and M.A.C.’s rich collection has something for everyone. For an unconventional, graphic yet chic look, you can try the neon-coloured cat-eye. And, if you are keen on experimenting with cool coloured eye makeup, M.A.C.’s white eyeliner is ideal for accentuating your eyes.
To nail a contemporary glamorous look, both Desnoyers and Rabanal recommended using the Technakohl Liner ($34)- a rich colour mechanical eyeliner pencil that lasts all day. With M.A.C. offering a selection of coloured eyeliners in over 30 shades, you can select your favourite that best suits your personality and mood.
The artists shared that Spring/Summer 2020 will see the re-emergence of the classic matte look and Real Skin Beauty is perfect for those who prefer the au-naturale look. This look is my personal favourite as it is ideal for almost any occasion- from the office boardroom to cocktail parties.
To get the Real Skin Beauty look, Desnoyers and Rabanal recommend using the Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 ($59) foundation that is formulated to achieve a full coverage matte finish or the Lightful C Naturally Flawless Foundation ($67). The natural look can also be achieved using the Studio Face and Body Foundation ($56)- a backstage favourite.
In addition to the natural look, the glowy skin look is all set to rock the runways in Spring/Summer 2020. This look can be achieved with M·A·C Cosmetics’ Studio Perfect Hydrating Cushion Compact ($67) and the Coral Grass Cushion Compact ($69)- both formulated for maintaining bright, radiant skin tones.
Furthermore, with the emergence of dark colours including Caviar and rich Bordeaux, the Dark Strokes Look is another popular choice. To nail the Dark Strokes look, Lyne recommended using the Matte Lipstick ($33) and Pro Longwear Fluidline Gel Eyeliner ($34).
Desnoyers shared, “The colour black seen on eyes has either a spontaneous feel to it or a lot of precision. To rock this look, texture and placement are equally important as it determines the mood of the makeup. There has also been a return of darker lip colour – from rich Bordeaux to Caviar– dark lips are both romantic and delicate, and precise application is key.”
