The tears have been shed, the goodbyes have been said. Whether it was the citizens of Westoro who claimed your heart or a virtual universe full of villains and “marvel,” these were worlds you could lose yourself in and characters to which you could give your heart. They had stories and plot lines so developed that they sucked you in, toyed with your emotions, and yanked on your heartstrings.

And we were there for every minute of it. Spanning over eight years, 22 Marvel movies and 73 GoT episodes, we loved, lost, cried, and screamed, and yet we always came back for more. Until, with our hearts in our throats, we bid our farewells.

Both the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) Infinity Saga and GoT are epic in their dedicated fan base, and rightfully so. Their intricate storylines had more twists and turns than a Spanish soap opera, their characters had a depth that would rival Gandhi, and their performances were worthy of the adoration they received and the golden statues that they didn’t.

So now that winter has come and gone, and the universe as we know it has vanished, what’s next? Who will mend our hearts and fill our empty souls?

The Return To Middle Earth

Middle Earth is a world imagined on paper but made for the screen. Two years ago, Jeff Bezos sent his Amazon Prime team on a mission to hunt down the next Games of Thrones. Flash forward and they’re heading back into The Second Age, spending a boatload of Castar–$250Million USD worth to be exact–for the rights to a series set as a prequel to The Fellowship of the Rings.

To say it’s a big spend is perhaps an understatement. Based on the cost of the rights alone, it’s already the most expensive TV series ever. Can you imagine the merch sales Amazon will cash in on over the five seasons to which they are committed? So when do we start popping the popcorn? Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said in a 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the company hopes to air the show sometime in 2021.

The Joker

After one hot trailer and fevered anticipation, on October 3, 2019, The Joker will finally hit theatres, and we’ll finally get to see that, “movie-making magnificently malicious smile”.

The Joker may have been re-imagined more times than Madonna has been “re-invented”, yet the power posse of Martin, Todd, and Phoenix seems to have created something vastly different from anything before it and nowhere near what we could have envisaged.

Wonder Woman

At the age of 18, she was crowned Miss Israel 2004, she then served as a combat instructor for two years in the Israeli Defence Forces while studying law and international relations. By 2017, both on and off the screen, Gal Gadot was known as Wonder Woman. The movie perhaps lacked the hyper anticipation that precedes many Marvel movies, although Gadot and Director, Patty Jenkins managed to lasso our hearts and had us cheering in our seats for this miraculous wonder of a woman. It’s a beautiful thing because, in the summer of 2020, we’ll be back in those seats watching the woman save the world once again.

Next up? Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange have confirmed sequels, but as of yet, we’ll have to keep waiting as no release dates have been set.

Bloodmoon

Call it a prequel, or as Mr. George R.R. Martin would prefer, a ‘successor show.” According to HBO, Bloodmoon–which is still a working title–“chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: it’s not the story we think we know.”

This awaited series is set 10,000 years before GoT, with a whole new cast of characters, starring Naomi Watts and Miranda Richardson. However, don’t hold your breath. The pilot is rumoured to be shooting in June, and release dates have yet to be announced. With a fandom as ferocious as this one, there is no doubt you will hear the rumble.

Whether your heart belongs to a fallible man suited in Iron or America’s greatest Captain, if your soul is set on fire by renegades and liars, knights or honest men, fret not. Whether you are saddened by the goodbyes or angered by the unjust, soon enough there will be intriguing stories to enjoy, unknown worlds to explore, and new friends to win your heart all over again.
