The cold and windy days of winter are waving goodbye. It’s officially spring and we can’t wait for summer to wave hello and warm us with that sunshine glow. As every fashionista knows, when the seasons change, so, too, do the latest fashion staples. Do you know what that means? It’s time to put your winter boots and jacket in storage and make way for your new spring-summer wardrobe.
From boiler suits to sheer dresses, here are the five fashion trends you will be seeing more of this season.
Boiler Suits: The Modern Utility
This so-called “modern utility” style’s origin was very humble, indeed. It was designed as work wear for people working in coal-fired boilers. Now, it is making its way to the fashion scene. Boiler suits made appearances here and there in the Spring Summer 2019 catwalks.
Fashion icons, Bella Hadid and Victoria Beckham, were seen rocking this piece and with 20.4k #boilersuit tags on Instagram. We can’t help but agree that this piece is an overall instagramable #OOTD look. Jazz it up with a striped turtleneck underneath or buckle it up with a statement belt. On days you don’t feel like putting too much thought into your outfit but still want to sport a cool look, this piece is a statement all on its own. We’re sure that you’ll see this piece everywhere sometime soon.
Short Suits: Power Suits but Shorter and Cooler
This corporate but also not-so 80s inspired short suit is making a comeback. The suit trend has been going on for years as they make a perfect #ladyboss outfit. However, wearing them in summer can make us suffer sweaty consequences.
So it is time to lighten it up with a shorter and cooler version. These pieces are easy to find at your favourite go-to shops like Mango, Zara, Forever21, and Asos. But if you don’t feel like spending the extra bucks for an outfit, just dig one out of your closet by finding a lightweight blazer, high-waisted shorts, and a tank top or a classic white shirt and you’re good to go!
Little White Dress: Summer’s LBD
You guessed it. It’s the innocent little sister of the iconic little black dress that goes with everything. However, the little white dresses are here to dominate the fashion scene this spring and summer. While your little black dress offers a timeless style and a slimmer illusion, it can be a little too much for the summer and again, sweaty consequences.
The little white dress offers an “easy-breezy” kind of style. It’s time to switch up your LBD to LWD and we swear this will be your go-to fashion staple. This piece is incredibly versatile, wear it from day to night and style it however you want. Pair it with a piece of statement jewellery and high heels for a smart casual look or you can opt-in with big sunnies, flats, summer hat, and your favourite tote bag for the perfect look for a cool summer brunch.
Acid Wash Denim: An Unexpected Comeback
Hailing from the denim trend of the ’80s, acid wash is one of the biggest trends in the fashion scene this summer and comes with a warning: not everyone can pull it off. Yes, celebrities and fashion icons like Kendall Jenner, Katy Perry, and Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley were spotted jumping on this trend. It is the kind of fashion piece that you either look so good in you’ll never want to take them off, or you’ll end up being another fashion victim.
A few style tips to pulling this off is to skip the skinnies and opt-in for a loose or boyfriend style instead. Add in a tan accessory, top, or coat and it will surely elevate the look. If you still feel like going for the skinnies (because who would say no to that sexy silhouette?), channel the 80s and opt for high waisted acid wash jeans cinched with a statement belt.
A good rule of thumb is to make sure that you are sporting an ‘80s inspired fashion piece rather than looking like you travelled back in time–remember it’s 2019, so head to toe acid wash is a definite no.
Sheer Dresses: The Naked Dress Trend
As the weather gets warmer, our summer fashion staples show more skin. So it is no surprise that sheer dresses would be coming into the scene in the name of “the naked dress trend.” This trend is undoubtedly a head-turner and even became a very controversial piece as models for Naeem Khan and Oscar de la Renta were sent into the runway in sheer dresses without an undergarment. Just like the acid wash denim, this see-my-underwear look is not for everyone but if you decide to try it, put it on with a well fitting black brassiere or a lacy bralette and black high-waisted panties.
Now, it is time to dig through your closet, or even your mom’s closet, to see if you can find a boiler suit, acid wash denim, or the perfect LWD. After all, fashion is cyclical and today’s trends are always making a comeback. Or you can channel your inner Rebecca Bloomwood and hit the stores for some retail therapy.
