May is just around the corner and in a few weeks, most of the world will be celebrating a day dedicated to honouring the countless women who work to raise our future generations. To say thank you, we’ll gift our mother’s flowers, cards, and small presents to show that we notice and appreciate what they do for us, every single day.

Yet, as the holiday has grown to be ever more popular, our gift options have become overwhelming. If you’re already indecisive, Amazon makes deciding what to give your mother almost impossible. Do you choose the Hamilton Beach Programmable Slow Cooker or the Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser? The answer to this question varies radically as mothers are as different as are their relationships with their children.

The good news is, however, that Mother’s Day shopping doesn’t have to be a stressful venture into stores packed with the latest gadgets and greeting cards. Here are some creative and thoughtful gifts that show your gratitude without breaking the bank:

A Personalised Mother’s Day Gift Box

Mothers are delighted when their children know what their favourite pastimes are. Does your mum have a sweet tooth? Is she creative? Does she like to paint in her spare time? Whatever her passions may be, pick up a beautiful box and fill it with all the things you know she loves. For additional personalisation, you can add a love note and a few of your favourite pictures together, too.

If you’re not the type who would spend time putting things together by yourself, here’s a personalised Mother’s Day box you can grab from Etsy for about $20 USD (refer to the image above).

A Favourite Dish

Most likely, your mum has done her fair share of preparing meals for the whole family. If she passed those cooking skills down to you, then cooking for her on Mother’s Day can be a nice way to show her you care.

It can be her favourite dish, your signature one, or one from the hundreds-of-thousands of recipes available online. Don’t forget to bring out your best china and cutlery and set up the table to make it a meal fit for a queen.

Or better yet, make her feel super special by waking her up with the pleasant smell of freshly brewed coffee served with pancakes and bacon right in her bed. It’s sure to bring a smile to her face and its a wonderful way to start the day!

Jewellery

You’ll never go wrong choosing jewellery as a gift, especially if you go with simple and elegant styles. Jewellery is timeless and sentimental, and it doesn’t have to be costly. For example, this Kate Spade One in a Million Initial Pendant Necklace (featured below) will only set you back about $58 USD.

Little tokens such as these will make your mother think of you every time she wears it.

Tile Trackers

With the thousand things your mom has to do daily, we can’t blame her if she forgets where she put her car keys. If she often forgets where she puts things, Tile Trackers can be the perfect gift.

They can be attached to anything she doesn’t want to lose, such as eyeglasses, keys, or the dog’s leash. All one needs is a Bluetooth connection. This is one sure and simple way to ensure she never forgets you or how much you care.

Sleepwear

As a baby, you were the reason why your mum was sleep-deprived for months. It’s time to give her the gift of restful sleep in return. Why not gift her a pair of luxurious and comfy sleepwear? Whether pretty or practical, pyjamas are a great gift idea, as many mums rarely indulge in something so nice for themselves.

To make your life easy, Cath Kidston has a variety of traditional sleepwear that can fit your budget (refer to the image above). But remember, your mum was a woman first; she might appreciate something a little finer, a little more feminine to remind her that she is still that beautiful flirtatious girl who captured your dad’s heart. Quality Time

Since life gets busy, it is harder and harder to find time to spend with mum. So what better gift could there be than the gift of time. Like we said before, every mum is different and every mother-child relationship is different too. So take a minute to discover what you both enjoy, and then set aside some time to enjoy it together. Here are a couple of ideas:

Love, Laughter, and Wine

Sometimes what you want most is just some good, old fashion, quality down time – a moment or two when you can get swept away into another reality, a moment when you can forget about all that occupies your mind. And your mum is decidedly no different. So buy a nice bottle of wine, pop some corn, and slip into your new mother’s day pyjamas. Then let the endless Netflix (or Amazon) hit parade take care of the rest.

Don’t know what to watch? Don’t worry about that. Good Housing has a 30 Best List of movies for moms and you, from the “warts-and-all look at motherhood” in Tully, to the beleaguered mom in Lady Bird, nominated for five Academy Awards.

If you’re still having a hard time picking from Netflix’s selection, here are some TV show suggestions for you.

Workshop or Nature Walk?

Why not spend a fun-filled day with mum? You can learn a new skill and explore each other’s passion and interests by attending a workshop. Eventbrite features a whole array of cooking classes, yoga weekend retreats, arts-and-crafts workshops, and more, all near you. If the great outdoors is more your style, head for the hills, the shore, or just a quick drive to the local park to get some exercise and a heartfelt talk in a nature walk. Be sure to take a few selfies so you have something for next year’s Mother’s Day personalised gift box while you’re at it.

Weekend Adventure

While many people resort to nicely wrapped presents, a well-planned adventure is a wonderful alternative. You can either stay within a tight budget or opt for extravagance. Reminisce on old activities or holiday trips and see if she would enjoy revisiting good memories. Or, if you feel like spoiling her on Mother’s Day, go ahead and book a resort where the two of you can spend a relaxing weekend, pampering yourselves and enjoying spontaneous conversations. Check out  Booking.com, Agoda, and Trip.com for Mother’s Day specials near you.

Regardless of what you choose, your mum loves you so she’ll appreciate just about anything – especially the gift of you. Still stumped? Just focus on what makes your mother and your relationship with her unique. Your gift will come from the heart and that’s sure to make it stand out. After all, what’s important is that you’re giving it with gratitude.

So scan our list, take your pick, and cheer on the best mother to ever live–yours.
