The follow-up after a first date is rarely as simple as: “I like you, let’s go steady.” Instead, we over-complicate things by over analysing text messages, adding nuances and interpretations, making it all feel more like a chess match than an innocent date.
People often act coy on a first date because a) They don’t want to look too eager/desperate and b) They’re not sure how the other person feels, but there are a number of cues that can confirm if your date is going well.
Completing The Date
Being able to see the date through to the end may seem like an obligation for most people, but if there is no chemistry, some couples may not be able to last past the appetiser.
Extending The Date
Suggesting something, anything (other than going back for a quickie to the other person’s house that is) after dinner is a solid indication that your date enjoys your company and wants to spend more time with you. If he suggests coffee or dessert after dinner, its not because he requires an urgent caffeine fix, but simply wants to extend the time he spends with you.
He Suggests Another Date
A common time to suggest another date is at the end of the first one. Some may do this as a friendly gesture before making a quick exit, but if your date is enthusiastic enough to suggest a second meet-up, he obviously likes your company.
He Messages You Right After Your Date
A sign that a date went really well, is when someone giddily follows up after a date to let you know they had a great time without waiting around. Of course, not hearing back right away isn’t a definite rejection, but the excitement of a speedy follow-up message speaks for itself.
He Just Wants To Spend Time With You
It’s the little things that will give you an inkling to how he feels. The informal text to see if you have the afternoon free to spend time together, unannounced, is the key that he is thinking of you even when there’s no pre-determined date. Take notice when he asks you to do random little things like run errands together or go to the park. When he is getting to know you and wants you around all the time, that is a sure sign that he like-likes you.
