The last aesthetic treatment I had undertaken was Ulthera, over 8 months ago. But in due course, thanks to my generally bad lifestyle and accompanying stress, the effects were starting wear off and something had to be done before people commented about how tired I was starting to look (again).
I am not into quick fixes, as attractive and tempting as they may be – I want a treatment that can fix my problem at the root. Think of it along the lines of painting over a mouldy patch on your ceiling. The fresh paint will most definitely cover the mould and give your ceiling an instant lift, but its not a solution to the problem – simply a temporary fix, because in time, the mould will work its way through the paint and show itself again. So when I was looking for a suitable treatment, I was looking for something that would fix my problem from within and not just temporarily cover it up.
Rejuran Skin Healer is made out of Salmon DNA and contains PDRN, which is essentially a substance that is commonly found in newly formed tissue. PDRN works to repair damaged skin and encourages the cells to return to their normal, healthy state. By incorporating PDRN into the skin, you are able to kickstart the age-reversal and regeneration process. In fact, Rejuran has been touted to be the best defence against ageing and skin damage. The treatment is able to naturally rejuvenate the skin from deep within while improving hydration and pigmentation, while reducing wrinkles and sagging.
After an examination of my face and skin at Veritas Medical Aesthetics, Dr. Chua Cheng Yu agreed that Rejuran would be great for me as it would strengthen and heal my skin from within and improve the appearance of my acne scars.
The nurses whisked me off to the treatment room, cleansed my face, applied numbing cream, covered it with cling film and let me enjoy some “me-time” with several cups of camomile tea and a much appreciated massage chair. After catching up on Instagram while having my tired muscles kneaded, it was soon time to have the numbing cream cleansed off and Dr. Chua then proceeded to explain what the procedure would entail.
Rejuran, like Skin Booster, is often performed using a ‘gun’ that fires the liquid into targetted areas of the face. However, Dr. Chua explained to me that the ‘gun’ lacked precision and resulted in the precious liquid being wasted, while concurrently causing trauma on the areas treated. This is why he preferred to spend more time to manually inject each section of the face at the precise depth required for the Rejuran to have maximum impact and eliminate any wastage.
Dr. Chua Cheng Yu is a surgeon by training and his skills were very apparent on how precisely spaced each injection was. His attention to detail and passion in his work is one of the main reasons why I chose to go to him for the treatment.
During the whole process the staff were by my side, to rub my shoulder and ensure that I was comfortable. They even gave me a little stress bear to squeeze should I need to. Dr. Chua constantly checked that I was in no pain during each injection. Personally I barely felt a thing. While certain areas (just below my eyes) were slightly more sensitive than others, it felt like nothing more than an ant bite.
The procedure took around 20 minutes, after which, a special Bio Cellulose Stem Cell Mask was placed on my face for 10 minutes, to reduce the redness and swelling and help rejuvenate and heal the skin.
Directly after the treatment you will have little bumps all over your face. These bumps will vanish by the next day and you can easily cover up any redness with makeup. Just be sure to diligently apply your sunscreen and keep your face moisturised.
If you are an aesthetic medicine newbie, ask yourself what you want to achieve. That’s an important question, because once you get to the clinic, you are going to be bombarded with so many amazing treatments and products that will definitely cause much confusion. But if you know what you want, you can explain your issue to the doctor, who will then advise you on the treatments that would best suit your needs.
A very important point to bear in mind is that no matter what your budget, don’t ever compromise on the medical professional you select. I have seen the effects of bad workmanship and inexperience and its not pretty. So when selecting your doctor/clinic, do your due diligence and ensure that he/she has a good reputation. Dr. Chua Cheng Yu has performed over 100 Rejuran treatments to date. He was also recommended by a journalist colleague of mine who has quite a bit of experience when it comes to aesthetic treatments, so I trusted her recommendation.
And remember, aesthetic treatments take time to show results. While some might be instantaneous in their effects, many do take a while. Unlike treatments such as dermal fillers and botox that treat the visible signs of ageing and show results almost instantly, Rejuran Healer Treatments reverse signs of ageing by addressing the issue at a cellular level and take about 4 to 6 weeks before optimal results can be seen. In fact, its almost two weeks since my first treatment and I can already feel an improvement in my skin hydration, and my nasolabial lines are almost non existent.
Am I happy with my decision? Most definitely yes, so much so that I will be buying two more treatments, each spaced 3-4 weeks apart, which is the recommended number of treatments required to see optimal results – and the effects are said to last between 6-12 months.
