Don’t say we don’t share. New Year’s Eve is almost upon us and we’ve not really decided what we’re going to do. Half our writers have plans to stay put in a bar and drink until dawn, but there are other things you can do that don’t involve seriously damaging your liver.
One of the alternatives happens to be watching the usually impressive firework displays that light up the night’s sky every major holiday. So, we put our heads together to find out where the best places you can see the fireworks for free. Here are five of the best.

Marina Barrage

Marina barage

Best to get there early, but the Marina Barrage might have some of the clearest views of the fireworks in Singapore from the ground level. You’ll have an amazing view of the fireworks against the CBD skyline including MBS.

Closest MRT: Marina Bay MRT

The bridges: Helix and Benjamin Sheares

Benjamin Sheares bridge

These bridges are a great place to see the fireworks, as they have a clear view of the Bay. Located right near the floating platform, this might be the best free seat in the house.

Closest MRT: Promenade MRT

Grab your seat early on the 31st, if you want a good front row seat to see the fireworks. This is likely to be the most crowded place to watch the fireworks but offers a truly unrestricted view.

Closest MRT: Downtown MRT Station

Gardens by the Bay, Bay East Garden

Last but not least, is Gardens by the Bay, specifically the Bay East Garden. This scenic location is also a great spot to see the fireworks surrounded by amazing greenery.
Closest MRT: Bayfront MRT
There you have it, five of the best places in Singapore to see the fireworks. You don’t need to spend a lot to experience the splendour of Singapore’s firework displays. Don’t count on getting a taxi on that day, so get ready for the crush of public transport, but it should be so worth it, so have a great new years eve!
