We all love gadgets and is it any wonder? There’s so much you can do with them these days, from turning your house into a fully automated smart home to exploring different world in virtual reality. It all feels super futuristic, most of us would have hardly believed it if someone told us 15 years ago exactly what 2026 had in store.
While there are tons of bits of great cheap tech these days (everything from bluetooth trackers to basic drones to security cameras) some of it also can run into hundreds or even thousands. And if you’re a fan of collecting and using them, it’s definitely going to add up over time. Thankfully though there are some ways to save money, here are some ideas.
Buy refurbished
Buying refurbished is the absolute best way to get premium devices at a massive discount. You get a phone or tablet that looks and functions exactly like a brand new model but it costs hundreds of pounds less and nobody will ever know the difference. Reputable sellers usually throw in a twelve month warranty for peace of mind too.
Some people feel like they absolutely need to have the latest tech and are prepared to pay a premium for it, but if you’re not fussed it works out perfect. You still get a perfectly good device but for way less.
Shop the sales
Timing is everything when buying electronics. Seasonal sales are obvious choices but waiting until a brand announces their newest model is a guaranteed way to save cash. Retailers are desperate to clear out their old stock to make room for the shiny new versions so they slash prices on older devices which are usually almost exactly the same anyway.
Patience pays off, if you can wait until times like Black Friday, January sales etc you’re much more likely to snap up a bargain.
Repair what you already own
People are way too quick to throw away a perfectly good laptop just because the battery dies fast or the screen has a crack. Getting a screen replaced or putting a new battery in an old device costs a fraction of what a replacement would. There are independent gadget and phone repair shops everywhere that will fix electronics in a couple of hours so you dont have to wait around.
It extends the life of the gadget and keeps electronic waste out of landfill! Alternatively you can sell the repaired gadget for more money once it’s fully working and it gives you a deposit to buy something else without having to find all of the money from scratch.
