As a freelance journalist and content manager for a fully remote company, working remotely has been my norm long before the pandemic. The trend picked up even more aggressively post-COVID. It became evident that this lifestyle was here to stay for me.

Finding cosy spaces outside my home to work in has become essential. I need these spaces not just for a change of scenery. They help create a sense of boundary between work and home life. Over the past seven years of my freelancing journey in Singapore, I’ve discovered some delightful cafés that are perfect for remote work. They offer not just a comfortable environment but also free Wi-Fi. This helps keep the productivity flowing.

Here are my top five picks:

Plain Vanilla At Tiong Bahru: My First-ever Remote Office In Singapore

Tiong Bahru is not short on work-friendly cafés. However, Plain Vanilla takes it one step higher. They have a secret extension beyond its main space. This was one of the first cafés I sat in to work remotely. I quickly fell in love with their blueberry loaves and flat whites. I loved them so much that I would have my boss buy them for me every time we got together for work. There, you’ll find students and working professionals typing away on their laptops. They sip on PV’s affordably priced coffees. They also indulge in those hard-to-resist cupcakes.

Choose from a dozen flavours ($4.50 each): the chocolate hazelnut cupcake is a bold, Nutella-fueled prize crowned with more nuts; the red velvet is made with Valrhona chocolate and topped with thick cream cheese frosting; and the cookies and cream cupcake is a chocolate affair with smashed Oreos weaved into its frosting. You’ll want to collect ’em all, I promise.

Well Collective At Punggol Is Perfect For Teams Working Together

Well Collective is a carefully designed space perfect for productivity. It has plenty of power sockets and complimentary Wi-Fi. There is a large communal table that encourages collaboration among fellow freelancers and students alike.

The ambience is warm and inviting, making it easy to settle in for a few productive hours. If hunger strikes, their Shibuya toast ($18) is a must-try—a delightful dessert with three enticing flavours to choose from. Plus, it’s pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry companion along for the ride!

Acoustics Coffee Bar For Days When You Really Need To Focus

Cafés are often bustling with noise, which can be a distraction when you’re trying to work. Acoustics Coffee Bar addresses this issue with its innovative design, featuring acoustic panels that minimise echo and absorb sound. On days when I have a mad number of meetings lined up, this is my go to place.

Their Owen Road outlet spans two floors. The first floor is a work-friendly space. It is complete with power sockets and reliable Wi-Fi. The menu is equally enticing, featuring recipes by Masterchef finalist Mandy Kee, such as the delectable pandan tiramisu. Don’t miss their signature cloud coffees (from $8) for a refreshing pick-me-up!

Luckin Coffee Is Present All Over Singapore And Their Lattes Are To Die For

Luckin Coffee has truly changed the coffee scene in Singapore. Its technology-driven retail model seamlessly blends quality, affordability, and convenience. The company opened its first stores in March 2023. It has quickly expanded across the city. It has become a fantastic spot for remote work. You can easily order from their app and collect your drinks in no time, making it a breeze to grab your caffeine fix. The ambience is quiet, allowing for a productive work session, and you’ll find Luckin Coffee locations everywhere.

Personally, I often visit the one in Pasir Ris Mall or PLQ. Both are strategically situated in quiet corners. They offer ample seating with chairs that provide proper back support. (And before you roll your eyes—yes, I’m 34 and a mum, so I need that back support while working, lol!) With a menu that features unique offerings like the Coconut Latte and Big Cheese Latte, Luckin Coffee is an ideal choice for those seeking a comfortable spot to work remotely without any hassle.
