Living in a bustling city like Singapore, my friends and I always prefer a laid-back holiday for our group trips. Luckily, we can easily reach Thailand’s top 5 islands from Singapore! With just a few hours of flying, you can find yourself strolling on the pristine beaches of Phuket, basking on the tranquil shores of Koh Samui, or swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Phi Phi Islands.

Vibrant marine life, jaw-dropping landscapes, and a rich cultural legacy await no matter which island you choose. These islands know how to have fun with plenty of activities to unlock core memories with your friends. Save this list for your next vacation with friends, and start dreaming of golden sands and full-moon parties.

Phuket

Phuket checks all the boxes for a memorable trip with friends. Get ready for a day of relaxing fun in the sun on any of its many (more than 46!) sandy beaches, and then head out for a unique and memorable night out on the town.

If you’ve had enough Vitamin Sea, don’t worry; it has lots to explore and do on land. Kick the day off by grabbing coffee and breakfast at one of the many charming cafes in Phuket Old Town, followed by a stroll along the colourful streets and markets.

No trip to Phuket is complete without visiting its temples to learn about the culture and marvel at the architecture. Check out the iconic Big Buddha or level up your culinary skills with Thai cooking classes. Lastly, end the day with a relaxing massage at one of the many spas!

Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi became a popular tourist destination after Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2000 adventure drama film, “The Beach.” Even with young Leo on screen, the stunning backdrop captivated audiences who still flock to Thailand to experience the breathtaking views in person.

This island is ideal for a friend trip as it has a beach to cater to every holiday mood. If “party on the beach” is on your bucket list, this is the place to go all out. If that’s not your cup of tea, you’ll also find calmer, quieter beaches where you can be one with nature (and sleep off the hangover).

Save some energy for the night; that’s when the real party starts! Rows of bars will come to life with booming electronic music, live performances, and Muay Thai fights for a legendary night out with friends.

Koh Phangan

If you love a good party, then you’ve likely heard of Koh Phangan. Known for its iconic Full Moon parties at Haad Rin Beach, it promises nights of electrifying music, beautiful light displays, dancing barefoot on the beach, and making sweet memories under the moonlit sky.

Parties aside, the island is big enough for those seeking peace and quiet. It gets quieter as you head north, with cosy retreats for yoga, meditation and spiritual workshops to unwind and connect with nature (and yourself).

If neither of those is your kind of thing, tons of other things await exploration, like hidden waterfalls, secluded beaches, temples, and, of course, food!

Koh Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand’s third-largest island, perfectly embodies all the charms that make Thai islands renowned. The clear, blue-tinged waters, soft sandy beaches, and tranquil vibes are just what you need for a laid-back holiday.

Visiting Ang Thong National Marine Park is an absolute must. The surreal views will leave you contemplating life. If you’re lucky, you’ll even be able to spot the animals that call this park their home, such as monkeys, otters, leopard cats, wild boars, and many different bird species.

And if you’ve always wondered what the legendary Full Moon parties on Koh Phangan are like, it is just a boat away. It’s perfect for a day or night trip!

Koh Tao

Koh Tao is a diver’s paradise; its vibrant coral reefs teem with diverse marine life. There’s lots to see underwater whether you’re diving or just swimming—you’ll be among colourful fishes, lively corals, baby sharks and turtles.

Also known as a backpacker’s paradise, it has plenty of affordable accommodation options for those seeking adventure on a budget. It comes to life as the sun sets, with beach bars, fire and cabaret shows, and clubs opening their doors for an unforgettable night.

The next time you want to escape city life with your friends, consider a trip to one (or all!) of Thailand’s top 5 islands. No matter which island you choose, it promises a holiday filled with fun activities for every traveller.

Each destination combines natural beauty, rich cultural experiences, and exciting activities, ensuring you and your friends will make lasting memories.

So pack your bags, gather your crew, and let the islands of Thailand show you the ultimate tropical adventure you’ve been dreaming of.
