As a mother to a very lively and vocal toddler and sassy seven year old, life is a crazy whirlwind of cuddles, giggles and milestones. But it also comes with its unique set of challenges, especially when both my little ones have sensitive, eczema, or atopic dermatitis (AD) prone skin.
Having to see my babies in discomfort, battling itchiness and skin irritations, is truly heart-wrenching. To bring them relief, I embarked on a journey trying, testing and rejecting various skincare products, searching for that one soothing solution that would heal their skin while at the same time bring them relief.
In our tropical climate, where humidity can be relentless, my children’s skin sensitivities were further exacerbated. Eczema and atopic dermatitis thrive in such conditions, causing flare-ups and discomfort and I have been on an ongoing quest to find a skincare range that was not only effective but also lightweight, non-irritating, and suited to our climate.
After numerous trials and errors, I discovered the Dermexa range by Aveeno Baby which has been formulated specifically for children with eczema. This range of skincare has proven to be a gentle and effective solution for my children’s delicate skin. The lightweight formulation and use of natural colloidal oatmeal leaves their skin soothed and nourished without any irritation.
One of the key takeaways from my experience as a mother is the need for more awareness among parents regarding skin conditions like eczema and atopic dermatitis. It’s crucial to educate ourselves about these conditions, understand their triggers, and identify products that are gentle and soothing for our little ones, because not all baby skincare products are suitable if your child has sensitive or eczema prone skin.
Since trying it, the Aveeno Baby Dermexa range has become a go-to for me due to its suitability for sensitive skin. The colloidal oatmeal in these products has anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce skin redness and irritation. Moreover, the lightweight texture is perfect for our climate, as it didn’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin. While it does leave a light layer behind, it is still far more comfortable that other eczema safe skincare products that I have previously tried on my kids.
To ease my children’s discomfort during humid spells, I have also taken additional steps such as maintaining a cool and well-ventilated environment at home, and ensuring that the children are washed and moisturised with the Dermexa range of skincare, especially after swimming.
Through this journey, I’ve learned that every child is unique, and what works for one might not work for another. However, finding a skincare range like Aveeno Baby Dermexa, which is gentle, lightweight, and effectively addresses the needs of sensitive skin, has made a significant difference in my children’s comfort and well-being.
