Don’t Make These Outfit Mistakes On Your First Date

After landing a date with the guy/girl of your dreams, you want to make sure you create an excellent first impression. There is much you can do in this regard, from turning up at the selected venue on time to making sure you wear something that will catch his or her eye.

Hopefully, the night will go well and you will spot the signs that your date is into you. But if it doesn’t go well, it might be because you have made one of the following outfit mistakes.

Mistake #1: Not Getting Changed After Work

If you have arranged to meet your date shortly after you have finished work, you might be tempted to turn up in the outfit you have been wearing all day.

This may be acceptable if you’re wearing something a little bit glamorous but if it’s too business-like, it might be a bit of a turn-off for the other person.

There is also the chance that your outfit might smell a little sweaty if you have been very busy during the day.

To avoid this mistake, you could bring your date outfit with you, perhaps by hanging it up in your car or office while you’re at work. Or you could time the date so you have more time to return home and get changed into something more suitable.

Mistake #2: Wearing Something Bland

Bland can sometimes equate to boring so don’t choose grey or brown colours unless you’re heading somewhere formal that disallows something brighter and more cheerful.

Pick an outfit that reflects your personality so your date can get a better impression of who you are. And don’t forget to accessorize with an eye-catching pair of earrings, or something akin to these lovely leather bracelet cuffs that will ramp up your style.

Of course, you don’t want your outfit to overshadow the rest of your appearance, so don’t over-accessorize or wear something that is overly dazzling (such as anything that will require them to wear a pair of shades while spending time with you).

Mistake #3: Wearing Something That Is Ill-Fitting

If your outfit isn’t comfortable, you might appear quite fidgety and restless when you’re out on your date, and the other person might assume you’re not interested in their company.

So, don’t be tempted to opt for a dress or a pair of shoes that no longer fit you when you’re going through your wardrobe. And when you’re clothes shopping, don’t risk buying something that you absolutely adore but that is too small or too big for you.

Use a footwear or dress size calculator to determine your proportions and then choose something appropriate. You’ll then be more comfortable in what you are wearing when you’re out on your date and the other person will be more comfortable too when your attention isn’t distracted away from them.

These are just a few outfit mistakes that many of us make when we’re out on a date. Can you think of any others? Leave us a comment below if you have ever made an outfit faux pas when you have been on a date with somebody.
