When it comes to buying something as important as a collar, harness or leash for my canine-child, I focus on quality and security over cuteness (although cuteness does matter, it is not a priority). So when BARKEFELLA invited me to try some of their products on my child, I was excited, but also hesitant, as I am always concerned about her safety.
I selected their one of a kind SNOWFLASK ($55 + $15 for the shoulder strap), a harness ($36) and matching leash ($28) from their new collection in the design ice cream. We tested it out for several weeks, and here are my thoughts:
Cookie (yes, my dog does have her own social media platforms) received compliments from other dog walkers from the first day that she put the new harness and leash to the test. The clasp or snap hook and the hardware on both the leash and harness are very sturdy, which is important as I do like to walk her on the road, and she tends to pull when nervous. The leash has a wonderful padded handle, that is so comfortable on your hand. It is also the only leash I have used that is so comfortable to hold. It does not pinch and is very cushiony.
The only bugbear that I had was that the harness, while secure and well made, could have been more padded like the harness handle. Because cookie tends to pull when scared, I like to have a harness that would be sufficiently padded so that it won’t cause her any discomfort when she tugs, or is being tugged. Additional padding in the harness would have also made it more structured, and sit better on her body. But other than for that, I like that she can’t easily wriggle out of it, making me more confident to use it when walking along areas with high vehicular traffic.
The insulated bottle is seriously handy, as it allows me to be able to bring along her preferred iced water, so she does not dehydrate. I also like that it comes with a shoulder strap, as this allows me to have my hands free.
