Go Zero Waste With Mission Wraps

Turn Leftovers Into Gourmet Meals With New SuperSoft Wraps! Mission Foods is spearheading the ‘Fold Over Your Leftovers’ campaign in efforts to inspire Singaporeans to make creative use of their meal leftovers.

In Singapore alone, more than 1.3 billion tonnes of food waste is generated annually, and in the past decade, there has been an approximate 40% increase in the amount of food waste produced and it is predicted that this figure will continue to rise.

To contribute to the zero waste movement, Mission Foods is hoping to inspire people to be more open to the concept of creatively transforming everyday leftovers into real dishes that look good and taste even better.

And for this, Mission Foods Singapore has collaborated with Sarah Huang Benjamin, a popular host on Asian Food Channel, TV chef and renowned food blogger, to create three original recipes. Born in Singapore to a Peranakan-Chinese mother and British Father, the three recipes are clearly influenced by her heritage as a Peranakan-Chinese growing up in Singapore.

In her recipes, Sarah features three common leftovers and pairs them with Mission Foods Supersoft Wraps to highlight the ease and convenience of turning leftovers into delicious meals.

Launched earlier this year, the new Supersoft range is an upgrade of Mission Foods’ range of wraps. The range comes in flavours like Six Grain, Onion and Chive, Original, Potato and Wholegrain. These new wraps have more of a buttery mouthfeel and are softer.

With the ‘Fold Over Your Leftovers’ campaign, the brand hopes to spark change in our lifestyles. Instead of throwing out leftovers, we should turn them into quick and delicious meals. At Mission Foods, we see endless opportunities that our versatile wraps can provide to elevate leftover food into gourmet meals. We hope that with this campaign, we can empower our consumers to make discerning meal choices with their leftovers,” said Mr Randall Tan, Brand Manager for Mission Foods South Asia.

Sarah personally demonstrated how to prepare the three recipes at the launch of the campaign and I am glad that it was really as easy as ABC! No more excuses to waste those leftovers anymore.

Recipe 1: Assam Pedas Fish Wrap

Serves 2

Leftover used: Steamed/Grilled Fish

Recipe Rationale:

A common leftover, cooked fish is often one of the hardest to reheat, as it can get tough and overcooked. By combining fish with the flavours of a Peranakan classic, Assam Pedas, we can create a light, refreshing wrap that is satisfying and nutritious.

This recipe is versatile and instead of using fish, you can also use up other leftover seafood, such as prawns or crabs.

On ingredients:

If you are not a fan of sambal belachan, you can replace it with chilli sauce, or leave it out altogether for a less spicy flavour.

Ingredients:

2 Mission Foods Supersoft Original wraps
200g Fish meat (can be leftover steamed or grilled fish), deboned and flaked 1 cup Lettuce, finely shredded
1⁄3 cup Pineapple, finely diced
1 Shallot, peeled and thinly sliced
6 Cherry tomatoes, quartered
1 Japanese cucumber, deseeded and cut into small cubes

1 tsp Fish sauce
1⁄2 Lime, juiced
1⁄2 tsp Caster sugar
3 tbsp Mayonnaise
2 tbsp Tamarind pulp
1 tbsp Warm water
2 tsp Sambal belachan
1 5-cm piece of Ginger, peeled
1 clove Garlic, peeled and grated
Fried shallots and fresh coriander, to garnish

Recipe 2: Curry Chicken Foldover with Herbed Summer Veggies

Serves 2

Leftover used: Chicken Curry

Recipe Rationale:

Chicken Curry is a dish that magically gets better after being left overnight, as the flavours meld together with time. By reinventing leftover chicken curry into a cheesy foldover, we can make the leftovers go further, while adding nutrition through a medley of summer vegetables.

This recipe is also a great way to introduce spices and curry flavours to children, as well as getting some vegetables into their diet. The use of Mission Foods Supersoft 6 Grains wraps also ensures that they are getting a dose of whole grains in the yummiest way possible.

Ingredients:

2 Mission Foods Supersoft 6 Grains wraps
2 cups Chicken curry, with chicken meat shredded 1 tbsp Curry Powder
1⁄2 cup Corn kernels, drained
1⁄2 Zucchini, diced
2 cloves Garlic, finely chopped
2 tbsp Cooking oil
1⁄2 cup Coriander leaves, roughly chopped
1⁄2 cup Flat-leaves parsley, roughly chopped
1 cup Shredded cheese, such as mozzarella
Salt, to season
